Family/Friends

Wasn't it just yesterday . .

That you begged me to sing “Dog and Butterfly” to you before you fell asleep? That you insisted “Thomas the Tank Engine” be read to you by the sock puppet? That you made a mess in the den making skyscrapers out of Leggos? That you were delighted with Mac’N’Cheese with hot dogs cut up in it? That you carried that stuffed cat around until it fell apart? That you wanted to build big houses when you grew up? Today . . . You’ve developed a pickyness about your food preferences. You’re old enough now to get that job you want. […]

Reflection Time

Many, many, many (did I say many?) years ago, I saw the ad on TV. It was back when the dotcom biz was booming – – the premise: three friends go into business together making ‘widgets’. They stumble upon this great eCommerce package and decide to take their business on the web. Up goes their business page – and then all three friends sit around the kitchen table watching the computer monitor – wondering when their first order would come in. It came with in minutes – – and then the next, then the next . . until they had […]

We be jammin'

I added my LaunchCast radio station over in the sidebar – – you can click to listen to my custom station, if you like the same music as me, that is 🙂 Right now, Metallica is playing – – but it’s a selection of their “St. Anger” album . . . so that’s not so hot. Gotta thank Chelle for keeping my sanity this morning. She’s knows why and how, too – – thanks, girl! Between Metallica and Chelle… OH! and my coffee – – I’m good to go 🙂

This kinda stuff

This kinda stuff pisses me off. This kinda stuff frustrates me. This kinda stuff makes me proud. This kinda stuff makes me chuckle. .. and this makes me jump up and cheer!

Long Overdue Blurfing

Football season is officially here – – and I have to say, that while I love Monday Night Football – I’m feeling a little left out because my team isn’t playing today because their first, official season game is tomorrow night — so I have to wait while everyone else I know around the blogosphere is watching their favorite team play today. /whine I haven’t done a solid blog blurfing post in quite awhile – – I’d say it’s long overdue. Lori poses an interesting question about remembering 9/11. I have to say – I’ve given it some thought, and […]

Chicago

The kids left earlier tonight to stay at my Mom’s. They are leaving bright and early in the morning to catch a train to Chicago where they’ll spend the day at the Navy Pier, Museum of Science and Industry and for a trip up into the Sears Tower. Should be a fun day for them all. “Mom,” says my teenage son, “Do you think I’ll get in trouble if I say the word ‘bomb’ on the way up into the Sears Tower?” “Ben,” says I, “Go ahead and try it and I’ll leave you overnight in a Chicago jail cell […]

Sneaky Skinner

Well, she has no idea I did it . . and I have no idea if she’s even going to like it. lol I just kinda… well.. did it. Sneaky, aren’t I? She’s either going to be very surprised, or very irked — I mean, we talked about doing it – – she wanted to do it, but we didn’t really finalize the deal, if ya know what I mean? Well, if she doesn’t like it – I can undo it and give the skin away to someone else! At least I didn’t sneak up on her and yank her […]

Labor Day

Off to the usual, annual Labor Day cook out at Mom’s today. It’s also the day that we celebrate her birthday – which is on Sept. 2nd. She turned 61 this year – – is she getting old . . . or am I? Hmm. . . I think we’re both just aging well.. . and let’s leave it at that. We usually do this cook out on Labor Day, itself – but this year, schedules were conflicted – – so we all decided on the Sunday before. Is it over yet?? I tolerate these family cookouts about as well […]

Do Something Good

In this day of political campaigning and the talk, talk, talk of soft money…..527 groups …. Illegal campaign contributions…. yak yak yak, yada yada yada – -I wanted to bring your attention to something else. A very good friend of mine is participating in a bike ride. Not just any bike ride, mind you – but the Annual 2004 MS Bike Tour. This year, our goal is to break $1.6 million, but we cannot do it without your help. Click ‘Register Here’ to sign up today, or ‘Sponsor Participant’ to support a rider with a pledge that will go a […]

For Mog, With Love.

ieSpell is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums, blogs, diaries). Even if your web application already includes spell checking functionality, you might still want to install this utility because it is definitely much faster than a server-side solution. Plus you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications, instead of maintaining separate ones on each application. The program installs as a new button in the IE […]
