Yet Another Photo Blog (YAPB) – WordPress Plugin

All work & no play. . makes me kinda grumyish, ya know? So, I took a bit of a break yesterday and gave a complete overhaul to my photoblog, SnappingPhotos.com. It was fun, quick and easy – I wanted the design to be VERY light and simple. I am pretty sure I succeeded with that –you don’t get much more light and simple than this: While you are at it – check out a few of the photos I have posted recently: A little history… The photoblog started in 2005 and it was powered by WordPress one point something back […]

SixApart Creates Buzz

It was all over the place yesterday, in case you missed it – here’s a bit of a blog round up on the release of MT 4 Beta – along with the announcement that they will release it as Open Source under a GPL license later this year – and the emergence of the MTOS (Movable Type Open Source) Community: Paul Enderson wrote Movable Type Goes Open Source – “Ironically enough, up until the release of MT 3.0 many users treated the software as open-source – despite the fact that it wasn’t official. When SixApart decided to enforce the licence […]

Backlogged..just a little bit

It’s amazing what one full week of being down with a serious cold/flu can do to a persons productivity – oy! It’s lots of coffee and late, late nights for me for the next several days just to catch up to where I need to be. I’m currently working on a WordPress MU site design and setup for a client of mine. I’m pretty excited about it because this is really the first WordPress MU site development that I’ve done for a client. I’ve toyed with MU quite a lot in the past, but nothing too serious. And, of course, […]

WordPress 2.2 Released into the Wild

What are the important parts of the new 2.2 WordPress release coming to a blog near you? Aaron has the rundown in his post: “10 Things You Should Know About WordPress 2.2”. The newest version of WordPress 2.2 is available for download today! I spoke to my editor last week and even though I submitted my final chapters for WordPress for Dummies a month ago, I will be getting the entire book back within the next week, or two, and get to see how much they’ve edited, slaughtered cut, re-arranged and corrected in the 19 chapters that I submitted, overall. […]

Recent WordPress Plugins

Since my redesign, I’ve been experimenting with a few new plugins here, and thought I’d share a few of my findings and fun. Some of the plugins, you won’t even notice because they work in the background controlling things like spam and spammy visitors to this site. Others are put in place to make my life a little easier and your experience a little more fun! Here are some of the WordPress plugins I’ve recently installed on this site: U Comment, I Follow: this plugin is by Randa Clay and it destroys the “nofollow” attribute assigned to links left in […]

Geek of The Week

Hey, what do ya know – I am the ‘Geek of the Week’ over at ServerBeach. Months ago, they asked me for my bio and information and then I promptly forgot all about it. Today, Angela Ramirez of ServerBeach wrote to let me know that I’m their geek this week. Heh. I remember, in high school, it was so not cool to be referred to as a geek. Is this something to put on my resume, ya think? haha ServerBeach, for those following along at home, is our upstream provider for Blogs About Hosting. We’ve been with them for about […]

Yes, I am Procrastinating

2 days to go on the book deadline – – will she make it? Or will she lose her sanity in the process? Time will tell. I have yet to finish the chapters for WordPress MU, but am getting there! I do have my Amazon.Com Connect Blog – so this is getting more and more real every day. Eek! Is the redesign of a blog a spring cleaning type of thing? I just helped Aaron launch his new design over at Technosailor. And Leanne just launched her own beautiful new design today. Is it a spring thing? I’m getting the […]

Excluding Categories from RSS Feed

On my E.Webscapes site – I have several different sections. The entire site is powered by the fabulous WordPress CMS, and yet, each of the different sections of my site have a different type of set up. I publish two different feeds at E.Webscapes. One is for my Design Blog and the other is just for my Design Portfolio feed. I handle posts to the blog and the portfolio in the same manner, the key is the category I assign each post to. The portfolio is assigned only to the “Design Portfolio” category – while posts to the design blog […]

WordPress MU and John Cusack

So, I received an extension on my final deadline by a week – which I’m thrilled about, to no end. The final chapters I’m currently writing are on WordPress MU and I seriously need every single second I can have to write these chapters. Thank you, Melody – a thousand times thank you! I will be completed with the book by April 26 – followed by an extensive editing process and final author review where I will have the chance to update everything to reflect the changes that have taken place within the WordPress software over the past several months. […]

A Case for Regular Database Backups

If you’re running a WordPress blog – – when was the last time you backed up your WordPress database? Ever? As a hosting provider, we do full daily, weekly and monthly back ups of our clients account. We do this as a value-added service for our clients, and your host may very well do the same thing. Keep something in mind, however… no matter how awesome your host is – all web hosting providers experience ‘burps’ in the system. Also remember that your website/blog is hosted on a machine that sits in a building somewhere in the world. Machines are […]
