Happy New Year – update your copyright statement

It usually takes me until April to update the copyright statement that appears at the very bottom of my site, that is until now. For WordPress users – here’s what I use for my copyright statement, which updates, automatically, each year, and I don’t have to worry about it ever again: © 2002 – Happy new year to everyone – hope you had safe celebrations! Me? I was sicker than a dog with the flu that my brother and his family brought to Christmas celebrations at my folks house. I was down and out – complete with fever, chills, aches […]

WordPress For Dummies GiveAway Results

Giving away books is FUN!. I give you the people I am sending a free, signed copy of WordPress For Dummies to, based on my 5-year Blogiversary post that had a little book give-away attached to it – and my apologies for it taking this long to post (the deadline was Nov. 5) – – my travels to NYC and Florida last week was the cause for the interrupt. So, here we have it: Nika’s own WordPress story is here Nika has been on WP for just three months, and she thinks she’ll stay. That’s great news! Jeric wrote his […]

WordPress For Dummies: An Update

At long, long last I have finally finished the WordPress For Dummies project that I’ve been working on since January. All of the edits are in and the book went to layout this week – and I couldn’t be more thrilled or excited! There were a number of challenges to writing this book.. but getting it finished and through the editing process was the biggest. In the final hours, we were all very happy to know that Matt Mullenweg wrote a very nice forward for the book giving a nice snapshot view of the state of WordPress today, including a […]

WordPress Girl

There are reasons people know me as a WordPress Designer – other than the fact that I’ve written the book on it. I’ve been developing/designing WordPress sites since 2003 – – and I think in blog time, that’s almost ancient. Occasionally, however, I do get requests for designs on different platforms (like Movable Type, Typepad, Blogger, etc). Rarely – – and I do mean very rarely, I get an order for an Expression Engine site. I think in the 5 years I’ve been doing this – I can count on one hand how many orders I get for Expression Engine […]

Hello Monday!

We’re home from our Myrtle Beach vacation. It was SO nice – the weather was beautiful and I got a decent tan. We played a lot in the surf and took moonlit walks on the beach every night, just because we could. There wasn’t a whole lot of vacation activity – we just took the entire week slow and enjoyed the time away. We didn’t get any diving in last week at all – – the storms they experienced there made the visibility less than zero. There is no shore diving to be had in South Carolina and the one […]

Designer Job Posting

Work, work, work…it’s my reason for the lack of updates here. It’s looking up, though – I actually got a final print date on the book, which is very exciting. I’ll just say that it’s soon! In other news, we’ve put a call for designers over at E.Webscapes, once again! The demand for our services has been growing at a steady rate and we’re looking to hire one one or two more designers who are experienced with graphic design, CSS and the popular blogging platforms available today (mainly WordPress – but Expression Engine, MT and Typepad as well). Interested? Visit […]

Sandbox Designs Competition Complete

Awhile ago I posted about the Sandbox Designs Competition that started back in June. The competition is now complete and the winning designs have been announced and displayed. First prize went to Arpit Jacob for SandPress, which is a really sharp and clean theme. Congrats to all the winners of the competition and big kudos to all the designers who participated. The WP community gets to benefit greatly from all of these new and great themes, based on the Sandbox Theme. Congrats to Scott Wallick for running a sane (I think ?) and successful competition, and to the judges who […]

Saying Goodbye to Sponsored Themes

It started about a year ago, or so. Maybe more, but it was about a year ago that I started noticing a trend at the WordPress themes site. Designers were putting up this new breed of free themes called ‘Sponsored Themes’ – pretty much it meant they were selling links to appear in the free theme to sponsors/advertisers interested. It didn’t take long for spammers sponsors to realize that having a link from a decent free WP theme could mean some excellent returns, from a incoming link count perspective. I’ve been approached by several different types of sponsors: Sponsors who […]

Sandbox Designs Competition

Scott Allan Wallick and Andy Skelton recently announced a competition for creating style sheets for the Sandbox theme for WordPress – The Sandbox Designs Competition For those of you not familiar with The Sandbox – it is a WordPress theme, only naked – leaving you, the creative designing geniuses that you are, to dress it up. Though it is so much MORE than just simply naked – – its pure and gorgeous, in all its semantic glory. A perfect starting point for themers from the novice to the experienced.. and all points in between. Why do I sense the beginning […]
