WordPress 2.0 – Upgraded

I successfully upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.0 overnight – – it went smoothly without any glitches (at least none that I’m noticing at 4:30 am). Overall, I like it. It seems a bit slower than before – though, that could just be my server slowing down during peak server-wide back up time. We’ll give it more of a chance than that. I don’t like the rich text editor at all – and am absolutely thrilled that they added in the option to get rid of it. I can see where it would be useful for many out there, so […]

WordPress 2.0

The newest release of WordPress is coming out any day now – version 2.0 – – minor and major overhauls to actually jump it from Version 1.5 to 2.0. Before upgrading: The Codex has a listing WordPress plugins that work and plugins that don’t work with version 2.0 – check it out before you upgrade your blog. It is, by no means, an exhaustive listing. Deactivate the plugins that don’t work before you upgrade (that goes without saying, eh?) BACK UP YOUR DATABASE! After you’ve upgraded your blog to 2.0 – you may very well find that it’s running database […]

WordPress Secure – 1.5 or higher

We have seen this on quite a few of client blogs, those of them who have not upgraded to WordPress 1.5 or higher. From the WordPress Dev. Blog: WordPress is secure: There is news of a worm which uses a vulnerability in the PHPXMLRPC libraries to spread a computer virus. Some articles are pointing to out-of-date information claiming that WordPress 1.5 is vulnerable. That is incorrect. WordPress 1.5 or higher is safe. Since the release of version 1.5, WordPress has used a completely different XML-RPC library, called IXR. So, everyone running 1.5 or higher can breathe a collective sigh of […]

WordPress 1.5.1

A new upgrade for WordPress – version 1.5.1 was released yesterday. You can find it and download it here, at the WordPress development blog. Their documentation team put together a change log, so you can read about the changes in this new version. In Matt’s words from the development site: this release has a ton of bug fixes, enhancements, and an important security fix. (Thanks again to Thomas Waldegger.) Plugin authors especially will love all the new API hooks and functionality we added to make advanced extensions to WordPress even easier. As a user you’ll find WordPress will run faster […]

Loooong Week

It’s Friday and I couldn’t be happier!! Chris has been gone all week on business in Atlanta – so I’ve had no one keeping tabs on me around here. He’s always good for making sure I do things like eat, sleep, drink…. basic life stuff. Sleeping has been at a minimum around here lately – – as has eating . . . drinking is another story. As you know, coffee is my life-blood. I’m just about to make the upgrade to WordPress 1.5 on this blog. So if you notice anything wonky – it’s just me breaking stuff. –==Update==– I […]

Speaking of Spam

I think Matt was reading my mind . .or my blog: Comment spam is a problem that hits many blog systems, but fortunately on WordPress there are some very robust ways to deal with this scourge. We’re building some important protections into 1.3 but in the meantime you should take action to protect yourself. Our own Podz has put together a great resource on the Codex on how to Combat Comment Spam that has dozens of excellent methods, and here are some of the highlights Click here for details. Run! Run! Do it! OH! And WordPress 1.2.2 has been released! […]

Comment Spam

I get comment spam. It never makes it ‘live’ on my blog, however. Not once do those weaselly little blog comment spammers get their link up on my site . . . not for on millisecond – – they don’t get the exposure they’re looking for here. They don’t get the cache with the search engine bots . . . not once, never. I have to ask – why do they persist? Why don’t they just move on to a blog that doesn’t have such tight spam controls? Their comments get thrown into moderation – – I have my WordPress […]

WP Upgrade

I’m about to do the upgrade to WP 1.2.1 – hopefully nothing gets munged. (Thanks to Michael adding that new word to my vocab today!). If you see anything wonky – it’s because it got munged and I need to unmunge it. Munge. Munge. Munge.
