Deadlines Don’t Care

I have been writing books since 2006 - that's a LONG time! The thing I've learned about book deadlines is that deadlines don't care about your life. They don't care about when you have the flu, or when you have 100 other things piling up in your To Do list, or even when you just flat out don't feel like writing. Deadlines are unforgiving.

Happy Father's Day

Today is Father’s Day.. and it got me thinking about fathers and what an incredibly important part they play in the lives of their children. No two fathers are the same, and they all come in different shapes and sizes. I think that fathers are sometimes undervalued and don’t get the spotlight as much as Moms do. That’s not to undervalue Moms in anyway – I happen to be one, myself. Though, in some cases, I just don’t think that Dads get the kudos that so very much deserve. My own father is a quiet, humble and gentle man. Looking […]

Forgot to mention: Web414 June Meet Up

Tonight is my presentation at the Web414 June Meet Up – I blogged about it earlier this month. They had announced (and I had announced here on my own blog) that the Meet Up would be held at Bucketworks in Milwaukee. Since then, Southeastern Wisconsin has experienced some major storms and flooding and Bucketworks had their share of the flooding, so bad, that they had to shut down for business in order to repair. The Meet Up has been moved to: MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) Rosenberg Hall 1235 N. Milwaukee St, room 201 It starts at 7pm and I […]

Something I'd really love to share.. but can't!

There is something I saw today that I really want to share here on this site, but I just can’t. I’m really excited about it and would love to show you… but… ack! See, the problem with family members knowing the URL to your blog significantly decreases the amount of things you can share on your blog – – ESPECIALLY when it comes to birthday presents! I have a certain person in the house with a birthday coming up a little over a month and I got something really special for them! It’s a certain custom something that needed to […]

Life is like a box of. . .

“Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you’re really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I’ve got a few missing. It’s ok though, because I’ve got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation.. so when I meet someone […]

Take the time

Got someone in your life you love? A friend. A parent. A child. A lover… take a moment and let them know….just ’cause. Do them… and yourself.. the favor of taking the time to say it out loud. Hope you all have a good weekend – – as for me? I need a sanity break. 🙂

Web414 – Milwaukee's Web Community

I’m really excited to have been asked to speak at a local web development/design group in Milwaukee this June. The group is called Web414 – Milwaukee’s Web Development Community, and from what I understand – it’s a group of Drupal fans, mostly – – though Mike tells me that they all appreciate WordPress. (Or maybe he just said that to make me feel more at ease??). The group is made up of mostly developers, with a smattering of designers here and there in the crowd and when I talked to Mike about what topic would be best for this crowd […]

Shall We Play a Game?

Anyone with a bit of age on ’em may read that title and in their head hear Joshua saying it in that menacing, computerized voice that I will forever associate with Global Thermonuclear War and complete annihilation of the world. By now, you’re thinking… “What IS she rambling on about??” This weekend, Chris and I reached new levels of geek when we decided to dig out our copy of War Games – a movie released in 1983 starring (a VERY young) Matthew Broderick. It was one of the first mainstream cybercrime, cyberterrorism flicks to hit the scene. Basically, the kid, […]

All Work n' No Play . . You know the story

The only problem with working on so many great blogs for our clients is that my own gets sorely neglected. I’ve had a new design for this site in the works for several months – but I can’t find a spare minute. Also, relatively decent ideas for posts here come and go throughout my day. They are there….then *poof* they are gone again. Aside from gobs of design work, I did finally begin the writing of the second edition of WordPress For Dummies, due to be released in a few short months. I did finish the writing of the free […]
