Wordpress For Dummies

Calling All Pumpkin Carvers and WordPress Lovers

Really, what does pumpkin carving have to do with WordPress…or vice versa?? Well, nothing really – – not literally, anyways. But, hey – this is the internet… we can make associations between things that were never associated before. As Halloween approaches and all the goblins and ghouls come out to play (a/k/a/ those pesky munchkin-types who come to your door looking for sweet treats) – – people also bring out the big, bright orange gourds, otherwise known as pumpkins – and carve them into artistic masterpieces. Enter Leanne’s 3rd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. She’s been running the contest for the […]

WordPress For Dummies: An Update

At long, long last I have finally finished the WordPress For Dummies project that I’ve been working on since January. All of the edits are in and the book went to layout this week – and I couldn’t be more thrilled or excited! There were a number of challenges to writing this book.. but getting it finished and through the editing process was the biggest. In the final hours, we were all very happy to know that Matt Mullenweg wrote a very nice forward for the book giving a nice snapshot view of the state of WordPress today, including a […]

Hello Monday!

We’re home from our Myrtle Beach vacation. It was SO nice – the weather was beautiful and I got a decent tan. We played a lot in the surf and took moonlit walks on the beach every night, just because we could. There wasn’t a whole lot of vacation activity – we just took the entire week slow and enjoyed the time away. We didn’t get any diving in last week at all – – the storms they experienced there made the visibility less than zero. There is no shore diving to be had in South Carolina and the one […]

Interviewed on VOISD

A few months back, Mike from the VOISD Webmaster Blog, requested an interview with me – which I was happy to participate in. We discuss my experiences as a freelance designer and my company, E.Webscapes – as well as my upcoming, soon-to-be-released, book, WordPress for Dummies, due to be published in September ’07. We talk about WordPress and why it is such a popular tool to use and whether or not I feel the freelance design market is saturated since the ‘blog boom’. Mike also has published a few other articles and interviews that were interesting: How to Automate Your […]

Sandbox Designs Competition

Scott Allan Wallick and Andy Skelton recently announced a competition for creating style sheets for the Sandbox theme for WordPress – The Sandbox Designs Competition For those of you not familiar with The Sandbox – it is a WordPress theme, only naked – leaving you, the creative designing geniuses that you are, to dress it up. Though it is so much MORE than just simply naked – – its pure and gorgeous, in all its semantic glory. A perfect starting point for themers from the novice to the experienced.. and all points in between. Why do I sense the beginning […]

WordPress 2.2 Released into the Wild

What are the important parts of the new 2.2 WordPress release coming to a blog near you? Aaron has the rundown in his post: “10 Things You Should Know About WordPress 2.2”. The newest version of WordPress 2.2 is available for download today! I spoke to my editor last week and even though I submitted my final chapters for WordPress for Dummies a month ago, I will be getting the entire book back within the next week, or two, and get to see how much they’ve edited, slaughtered cut, re-arranged and corrected in the 19 chapters that I submitted, overall. […]

Never Thought I'd Say It

I actually handed in my last round of submission for the WordPress for Dummies book last night at 12:30 am! Wow! This was one of those projects that, in your head, you knew that it would eventually come to an end.. but you just weren’t feeling the end coming, if that makes sense? I had set a self-imposed deadline of midnight last night and I typed my very last word at 12:02 am.. not bad for a professional procrastinator, eh? Melody, my Acquisitions Editor, has been just fabulous. She was the one who so generously gave me an extension of […]

Yes, I am Procrastinating

2 days to go on the book deadline – – will she make it? Or will she lose her sanity in the process? Time will tell. I have yet to finish the chapters for WordPress MU, but am getting there! I do have my Amazon.Com Connect Blog – so this is getting more and more real every day. Eek! Is the redesign of a blog a spring cleaning type of thing? I just helped Aaron launch his new design over at Technosailor. And Leanne just launched her own beautiful new design today. Is it a spring thing? I’m getting the […]

WordPress MU and John Cusack

So, I received an extension on my final deadline by a week – which I’m thrilled about, to no end. The final chapters I’m currently writing are on WordPress MU and I seriously need every single second I can have to write these chapters. Thank you, Melody – a thousand times thank you! I will be completed with the book by April 26 – followed by an extensive editing process and final author review where I will have the chance to update everything to reflect the changes that have taken place within the WordPress software over the past several months. […]

Sweet!

It’s not scheduled for release until September 2007 – but you can pre-order if you wanna!. They don’t have a picture of the book cover up yet… Gee – I wonder what it will look like? I’m thinking black with shades of yellow? Not like it’s predictable, or anything.
