Deadlines Don’t Care

I have been writing books since 2006 - that's a LONG time! The thing I've learned about book deadlines is that deadlines don't care about your life. They don't care about when you have the flu, or when you have 100 other things piling up in your To Do list, or even when you just flat out don't feel like writing. Deadlines are unforgiving.

Whew!

We actually did it! We’re in the new house now – – can’t say that we are completely settled in – – but we’re actually living, eating and sleeping here. It took some doing, let me tell you. C. arrived into town at about 8am Saturday morning. He pulled the truck up to the new house and I woke up and drove out to pick him up. I was still wearing my PJ’s!! I was that excited to see him – – I didn’t even get dressed for the occassion – – just pulled on a pair of slippers, threw […]

Winding Down

My weekend of on-call is winding down nicely. This is the last time that I make the decision to pick up an entire weekend of call just to make a few extra bucks. Now I know why the company only has us do on-call one day at a time, instead of three. It’s incredibly taxing on the system – – not too mention the psyche. I’m headed over to Mom’s today for a BarBQ – we get together every Memorial Day for a family cook-out. Things are getting better between my siblings and I – – however, I can’t help […]

Chicken and Ghee

I got a new recipe from a patient of mine this week. Well, it’s not really a recipe, per se – but more of a ‘technique’, I guess you could say. It’s called “Ghee” – some refer to it as clarified butter. It takes a while to make – with some considerable effort. But I have to say the outcome is fabulous! It sells in the health food stores for about $25.00 for a 4-6 ounce jar. You can make it much cheaper at home – if you have an hour or two to spare in order to get it […]

Painfully Honest

I’m on call this weekend. ALL weekend long, as a matter of fact. Generally, the RN Case Managers are on call about 5 times per month. Not a bad deal, really. However, with this move coming up – I needed the extra cash in my pocket to pay for all the extra expenses that come along with moving. Since we get paid $300.00 per day for being on call – I picked up extra days this month. LOTS of extra days. We get paid the money over and above our usual salary, and we get paid $300 whether we actually […]

One Week Left!

One more week to go. He is leaving on Tuesday to make his long drive across the country to move here. He’s been pretty stressed with all the pressures that come along with packing up your entire life and moving it across the country. It’s got to be somewhat difficult – – but even in his stress, he is happy and sounds excited about his up and coming new life. I am, too. Quite honestly – time is going by so slowly for me ever since we got this house. C. will tell you otherwise. Time, for him, is going […]

Assisted Suicide

Mike killed himself over the weekend. 54 years old – an AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia) patient of mine. Well, he wasn’t a patient of mine for very long – – just 3 days. He was quite a cranky guy – with an opinion on absolutely everything. He was crusty and grumpy – but loveable. One of the very first things he ever said to me was, “I hope you aren’t going to be bringing any social worker into my house. I don’t want no fucking social workers here – they are useless.” I never did bring that social worker in. […]

Weird Weather

Just went through the shortest tornado warning in my history of them. Storms are a’brewin’ here and it looked as if they were going to get pretty nasty. This is the storms from the south midwest of the country (Oklahoma, Missouri, etc) and I think the weather guys were worked up into a frenzy and called this one prematurely – – I can’t blame them, though. Better to be safe than sorry. As soon as the weather bells rang and the TV went nuts with the actual tornado warning – – I hearded myself and the kids downstairs. We got […]

Crazy Week!

This week has been a whirlwind, to say the least. Without going into much detail about it all – I can just say that this week has been a huge lesson in hypocrisy in regards to freedom of speech. My other website suffered a few coporate slams this week – – and I’m just hanging out and taking it all in and bouncing back appropriately. I’ve been working a lot this week in getting things ready for the big move at the end of this month. C. secured his moving truck for 5/26 – 6/2…so now that I actually have […]

The big 3-5!

Yes, that’s right – today is my birthday. I’ve been telling everyone all day that I’m 21, of course. However, the truth of the matter is that I’m 35. I recieved a home-made Lily from my son, with a certificate good for one hug. I also recieved a real, live yellow pansy in a pretty purple planter from my daughter with a certificate for one hug and one kiss. Absolutely perfect presents, if I do say so myself 🙂 I’ll be cashing in those certificates when they least expect it. I spent the afternoon painting my bathroom. About 2 years […]

Happy Days

Thought I’d start up again – just for my own piece of mind. A place to babble on about things that tug at my mind. There’s just so much going on in my life, I know that if I don’t take the time to sit and write about things going on – I’ll drive myself (and my friends and family) insane. The site that was once here was taken down a few months ago, while I paid attention to more important matters. Now it’s been reshaped into a calmer, more toned down version for my thoughts. There’s been so much […]
