WordPress 2.0 – Upgraded

lsw-x

I successfully upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.0 overnight – – it went smoothly without any glitches (at least none that I’m noticing at 4:30 am).

Overall, I like it. It seems a bit slower than before – though, that could just be my server slowing down during peak server-wide back up time. We’ll give it more of a chance than that.

I don’t like the rich text editor at all – and am absolutely thrilled that they added in the option to get rid of it. I can see where it would be useful for many out there, so it’s a good thing it’s in there – – but Kudos to whomever had the idea to give users the option.

I like the ability to add categories in the post edit window – as well as the ability to deal with the image upload, etc, etc – in the post edit window. Nice image browser, too.

Helluva job. H e l l u v a job!

The list of plugins I am currently using that function just fine with the 2.0 WordPress upgrade:

BackupRestore
Acronym Replacer
LastRSS
Akismet (of course)
Bunny’s Technorati Tags
(*note: the codex reports that Bunny’s Technorati Tags do not work in the new upgrade. It reports that the tags display fine, but the form field does not show up in the post edit window. I do not have that problem – works fine for me.)
Gravatar
Yahoo/MSN Smileys
Random Quote
SH-Autolink
Smart Archives
Spelling Checker
Subscribe To Comments
Drop Down Categories
WP Useronline
WP Contact Form
Slobo’s Inline Pingbacks and Trackbacks

If you are looking to have someone perform the upgrade for you – E.Webscapes is currently taking orders on a first come, first serve basis. The queue is already filling up – the sooner you get your order in, the sooner we can get you upgraded. Guess you all know what I’ll be doing this week, eh?

  3. I am curious however. What will we be missing exactly should we decide to “pass” on this UpGrade.
One thing i take exceptions with on any upgrade is the loss of plug-in performance by those ones i especially depend upon most.
I know there is always a work-around, but sometimes that takes far more time then it’s worth IMO.

    Happy New 2006!!

  4. Just wanted to agree with you about the rich-text editor. The first post I edited in it lost half the content of the post when I saved (code examples that didn’t have backed up anywhere convenient! arrghh!). I immediately hunted down the way to turn that sucker off!! I don’t know how people stand using those things and I am SO GLAD you’re not forced to.
