The big 3-5!

Yes, that’s right – today is my birthday. I’ve been telling everyone all day that I’m 21, of course. However, the truth of the matter is that I’m 35. I recieved a home-made Lily from my son, with a certificate good for one hug. I also recieved a real, live yellow pansy in a pretty purple planter from my daughter with a certificate for one hug and one kiss. Absolutely perfect presents, if I do say so myself 🙂 I’ll be cashing in those certificates when they least expect it.

I spent the afternoon painting my bathroom. About 2 years ago, I had painted it a very pretty, smoky purple color. It was a personal thing, with a long story behind it. See, I had been living with my ex here in this house – and that bathroom was kind of designated as ‘his’. We had a pretty ugly break up in 2000 – and when he left and I was finally able to relax and enjoy my home again – as my own, I shut that bathroom door and literally didn’t open it for a year. I didn’t like the memories of it.

At the urging of some friends and family – I re-opened that door a little over a year later. It still had some of his things in it. It still had some of his little hairs scattered around the sink that had escaped his shaver. So, I went to work on it and scrubbed it clean from top to bottom and then painted it my favorite color – purple. I decorated it – – hung some nice pictures in it, bought some throw rugs and towels with the purple theme and it became my bathroom.

Well, the painting thing went against my lease – – here, I am not allowed to paint anything without permission from the landlord. OOPS! My bad! Since I’ll be moving out in a month, or so – I decided to repaint it back to it’s original plain ol’ antique white color so my landlord won’t have a fit.

I just finished with the primer coat. I bought a gallon of primer paint to go over the purple color first – because I think if I didn’t prime it, it would take about 3 – 4 coats of antique white to cover the dark purple color.

Funny, I remember it being fun when I painted it purple. Today, I’m not finding it so fun to re-paint it back to white. But a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

🙂
