That’s Life

Providing Referrals – Are You Taking a Risk?

The scenario is simple: You have either approached me or have read something that I’ve written where I have provided a referral to someone, who I have worked with in the past and who I know, provides high quality development and/or design work. Based on my recommendation – you approach this person and you enter into an agreement with them and they start work on your project. Then it all goes down hill from there. You write to me and tell me about your experience with the person I referred you to. Poor customer service. Deliverables weren’t what you expected/wanted/asked […]

Fridays Rock

Thank you ~ by Dido “..And even if my house falls down now, I wouldn’t have a clue – because you’re near me. I want to thank you.. for giving me the best day of my life…” Even as a self-employed chick working from home – Fridays still rock. There may not be that sense of ‘closing up’ for the weekend, or ‘going home’ to enjoy a few days off – – truth is, being self-employed – you just never really do leave the office. But, there just is something about Fridays that makes you want to take a deep […]

Click It or Ticket

In my fine state of Wisconsin (here in the U.S.A., for you foreign folks), we have a program called Click It or Ticket designed to enforce seat belt laws in this state. Because seat belts save lives. Virtually every day in Wisconsin, people of all ages are killed or seriously injured in traffic crashes. On rural farms, small towns, and big cities throughout the state, families are devastated as children lose parents and parents lose children in crashes. And yet…there is no motorcycle helmet law (for riders over the age of 18). Apparently, Wisconsin could care less about families who […]

Pedantical

My word for the day: Pedantic. pe·dan·tic [puh-dan-tik] –adjective 1. ostentatious in one’s learning. 2. overly concerned with minute details or formalisms, esp. in teaching. How is YOUR Monday? 😀

Power Nap Dreaming

So, I slept. I got in 2 hours between 7 and 9am. And I had a dream. In my dream, I was in some sort of bohemian flat with a very cute girl with very long brown hair. She was teaching me how to smoke pot (yes, because I don’t know how…believe me?). I was also trying to convince her that she needed to tell me how she knew me..because I didn’t know her. But she knew me, and knew a lot about me…. the only thing we had in common is a mutual friend. She wouldn’t tell. We smoked […]

Checking in

Still kicking over here. My lack of updates have nothing at all to do with my health (thanks for those who were concerned.) I think I mentioned a bit ago that posting would be light around here until I got things under control..I’m still working on it. My editors have me on a short leash (but, I’m almost completely done..there IS hope!) and my design clients have been keeping me hopping as our orders over at E.Webscapes continue to pour in at an amazing rate. My daughter has been gone at summer camp all week, my husband has been on […]

Stuff in My Head

There’s been a WHOLE lotta work going on around here..and not so much play. It’s alright, though… I get a short reprieve the weekend of the 27th when I get to leave all this work behind for a few days and attend the Blogher conference. So far, I’m looking forward to meeting up with Kathy, Leanne, the folks from Wiley and (possibly) my wonderful clients over at Crank Mama (it was through their post that I found this interesting recipe for a Perfect Martini that sounds like the closest I will ever come to a religious experience). Crank Mama is […]

Whole Foods Infatuation

If you don’t have a Whole Foods in your area – count your blessings. No, really! It’s a phenomenal store and if I had one in my immediate area, I’d have to get a second job in order to support the obsession. For those not familiar with it – the basic concept is an entire natural, organic grocery store – no artificial anything to be found within. Think of a trendy shopping mall.. except, instead of clothes, you have food. I was introduced to it by my friend, Tom (who, as a physician, probably has no problem affording haunting the […]

Beautiful

My favorite part of this song occurs at the very beginning where she whispers….Don’t look at me… Christina Aguilera – Beautiful It’s worth noting that my bird loves to sing along to this one. It’s Tuesday.. this week is much better than last. Thanks for the support and encouragement I’ve received via email based on my last post (and for the virtual flowers, Stevie – that was really sweet!)… and Jeannette – I JUST got your voicemail today (I know, I know…) – – planning on returning that call later tonight when things are slow and quiet.

Roughin' It

It’s been a rough week, to say the least. I’m getting jacked around in a few different directions, which, of course, is playing havoc with my stress levels. Upon the advice of a close friend, I went for a 1-hour full body massage yesterday morning – and it did work wonders at decreasing the tension levels, but I’m finding it’s MUCH easier for that tension to raise, than it was to get it to decrease. Probably pretty light posting around here for a few weeks until things reach a sustainable level of calm. In other home front news, there was […]
