Do what you love . . love what you do
When I submitted the final, final edits for the second edition of WordPress For Dummies today – I breathed a tremendously huge sigh of relief. There is nothing like that feeling of accomplishment to carry you through to the next day. This was a big project – – just as it was the first time around, and having it finished, finally not only lifts a great big weight off the ol’ shoulders…but it made me reflect a bit. As I’m uploading the last and final files..I could feel myself physically relax. I sat back and thought – – I really […]
What to Expect When You're Expecting WordPress Upgrades?
I get this question a lot: How do you always know what’s coming with the next WordPress release??. I can tell you that I’m not a member of some secret society. I don’t have an exclusive inside track into WordPress Development. I don’t talk to the core WordPress developers on a regular basis (quite actually, our paths cross every so often..ever so briefly…every once in a great while). It’s not super secret information that only a few are privvy to. Basically to answer the question: I make it my business to know. Up and coming changes to the WordPress core […]
Brett Favre. I can't get over it. I think I need therapy.
Sounds like Brett had a good opener with the New York Jets…..even though the Jets eventually lost to the Redskins today in the pre-season game. We saw Favre’s first season TD pass — a 4 yarder to TE Dustin Keller…as a Jet – not a Packer. Seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets jersey?? Surreal! Like it’s all some strange dream.. or alternate universe. I’m not sure how long this will take – – or if it’s even possible for me – to get over. I really do like Brett Favre and I do really hope he’s happy playing […]
Upgraded: WordPress 2.6.1
WordPress version 2.6.1 was released yesterday – this blog has upgraded. I’ve not experienced any problems with the upgrade at all. This is not a mandatory or security upgrade at all – you’re safe not to do the upgrade, if you don’t want to (doesn’t it feel like we JUST upgraded to 2.5 …then 2.6..now…? haha). It’s more of a maintenance update, as reported by Keith @ WTC. The official WordPress blog reports: “If you’re happy with 2.6, however, keep on using it. You need not upgrade to 2.6.1 if 2.6 is getting the job done.” Some of the main […]
A Good Year
I’m a big fan of movies. Of all sorts, really..I can’t really nail down an exact genre of films that appeals to me more than others. Every once in a while, a film comes a long that just grips me, holds my attentions and sparks my passion and intrigue. I can name a handful of films right now, off the top of my head: The Red Violin (Violon rouge, Le), Man on Fire, Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Lucky Number Slevin, The Constant Gardner, The English Patient – – and to throw a little fetish and change into the […]
Sync Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar
I switched from Microsoft’s Outlook to Mozilla’s Thunderbird for email handling about 8 months ago. Why? Curiosity, I guess – – nothing more, really. In those 8 months, Thunderbird crashed a total of 4 times – and each time, I had to spend a considerable amount of time rebuilding my email. Earlier this week, I had a complete system crash and ended up rebuilding my entire PC from scratch. I had backed up my Thunderbird files using MozBackUp – however, when I went to restore those backed up files after rebuilding .. everything was gone. *Poof* I took this opportunity […]
Computers..sometimes, they suck
I couldn’t describe the last 24 hours of my life without getting a homicidal twinge. It all started with a hard reboot coupled with a battery backup failure during an electrical storm (one of many we’ve had here in the past few days). After the reboot, I got the dreaded blue screen of death on my PC. I’m not usually a reactionary type. I stay pretty pulled together during times of stress and crisis…normally. Blue screens, however? They make me nail bitey. Which takes me to my the next phase of my homicidal rage. See, I’ve had these brand new […]
Designers, do you pursue local business?
It’s no big surprise that the majority of my design business thrives on national and international clients. Having a presence on the web will do that for you – your business is found by people from all over the world. If you run a design shop – your experience is probably much the same as mine, in that regard. But when is the last time you turned your focus locally to build business relationships? There is probably a virtual landmine of business opportunities right in your own hometown that you are possibly overlooking when your focus is global. I live […]
This week I. . .
It’s been a WEEK! I’m happy that it’s over and the weekend is finally here . . . seems like it took forever. This week I… …Finally have an answer after a somewhat worrisome week..and without too much detail, I’ll just say this: The pathology test, mammogram and ultrasound came back completely NORMAL. They didn’t show up with anything that is not supposed to be there. So, I guess you guys are stuck with me for awhile! …Flooded the kitchen and, subsequently, the garage that sits underneath it. What? Anyone could make the same mistake I did: I turned on […]
