Bad ski instructor – – bad, bad

The ski instructor from hell An Aspen Times columnist has been fired from her job as a snowboard instructor at Snowmass after mocking her students and their parents in a recent column. In her Jan. 1 column, Alison Berkley described one student as a ”fat retarded kid” and ”whale boy,” and said students’ ”ultrawealthy” parents ”think I’m a miracle worker because their brain-dead kid actually got excited about something besides video games for the first time since the day she turned 13.” Later in the column, the 33-year-old Berkley wrote: ”The real reward comes at the end of the day […]

Today's Blurfing

I’m zonkered today. I slept like shit last night and then got absolutely killed at work with the usual post-weekend clean-up. Would SOMEONE please feel sorry for me? Ok- anyways . . . so I sat back with a hot cuppa java and did some surfing and blurfing (regular surfing v. blog surfing). Surfing Bet’cha didn’t know I was a fan, did ya? Oh yea, baby! Up from Zero, a DVD documentary about the brave men and women of the New York City building trades who put themselves on the line on September 11, 2001 – and for nine months […]

Like Riding A Bike

I got up on the ski hill yesterday and felt a little unsure of my footing the first couple of runs down. Oh, who am I kidding? My first time down I fell four times. Four times on a 10 minute run! My first fall was right off the damn chair lift. But after all that – it was like riding a bike. Got my confidence back and got into the right feeling and spent the rest of the night swooshing down the 10 minute run about 30 times. Oh how do I miss Lake Tahoe! But it was fun […]

Night Ski

We’re headed off for the night to spend it skiing. Our local hills have night ski from 4 – 10pm. Wish me luck that I don’t break something! Last night, Chris took me to a store, saying that he had one more Christmas present for me – but he couldn’t buy it himself, because I needed to pick it out myself. I was getting rather nervous on the way, as my mind was conjuring up things that only girls conjure up. *shudder* Stop that! Anyways – we pulled up outside MC Sports, parked – – walked inside and he took […]

Ski Snob

Ever since I skied at Lake Tahoe on the slopes at Heavenly and at Kirkwood – I guess I’ve become a bit of a ski snob when it comes to skiing in Wisconsin. The kids have been talking about taking a ski vacation with us to Tahoe. We didn’t take them last year, because it was a business trip (read: Adults Only). Every year, Chris’s company hosts a ski trip for the owners and a guest. It was my first time in Tahoe – and I loved it. And now, after hearing about it and seeing pictures of it – […]

Friday Five on Sunday

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones? Very rarely. Actually – I very rarely watch television at all – except for lots of cable news and a few movies late at night when I can’t sleep. The last sports event I watched on television was the De La Hoya v. Mosley fight on HBO. 2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes? I have to be a hometown girl and say the Green Bay Packers. 3. Are there any sports you hate? Hate is such a strong word, isn’t it? I really dislike professional wrestling (is […]
