Seriously tired

lsw-x

On-call again.

I got roped into it at the last minute. Monday – I slept the entire day away because I was on call on Sunday and up all night.

Tonight (this morning?) it’s 2:34am – and I’m up again. Tired and grumpy. Luckily, however – I’m not having to go out. I’m just sitting here waiting for the doc to return my page. I’ve paged him twice in the last hour – – how late do I stay up and wait for the return call? I do know where he lives….I could go pound down his door?

It’s seems half my time is spent chasing after doctor’s. Trying to get them on the phone. Trying to get their signature on a piece of paper. Trying to get an order. Trying to get them to see their patient.

Nothing against docs – – I know some really super ones – – and some of my best friends are doctors (for those of you who know who you are – you know I think you’re a gem!).

However, after being hung up on a 4am Monday morning – – and now sitting here at 2:30 am waiting and waiting – I’m beginning to think that the last class they take before graduating is “How To Avoid Nurses 101”.

I realize I paged at 1:30 – – and then again at 2:15 a.m. I realize it’s late (or early, depending on your outlook), I know he’s probably tired…had a long day….etc.etc.etc.

So am I and so have I, by the way. My pager rang at 1:20 a.m. – I woke up and returned the call at 1:30 a.m.

I’m just sayin’..

  1. I always thought being on call sucked. I always got out of it if I could. There were other nurses who wanted the extra money, so I would give my call to them.
