I’m sitting in a hotel room in Hartford, CT at the moment – waiting for Chris to finish a meeting with his new potential client this morning. Let me rewind backwards for a minute…
Yesterday was our 1 year anniversary – – can you BELIEVE it’s been a year already? Sometimes yes..sometimes no – – either way, it’s been a very good.. if not very interesting.. first year of marriage together.
We were planning a weekend trip to Miami to get in a full weekend of SCUBA diving, however, a few weeks ago, those plans had to change due to a business committment he had with his business. Those plans took us to Hartford, CT instead of Miami. He has a meeting with a potential client this morning – which meant he needed to fly in yesterday, on our anniversary. At first he felt really bad about it, because he really wanted our anniversary to be special – – not spent in some strange town.. and definitley not spent apart!
So, sometimes plans change and instead of grumbling about how things just didn’t go our way – – we decided I would fly into CT with him so we could spend the weekend together – – after all, it doesn’t really matter where we spent our anniversary.. just as long as we were together, wherever it was.
Chris was actually in Atlanta all week last week. He flew home on Friday and got in at 11:30PM only to turn around and fly to CT at 9AM the following morning.
With absolutely NO idea of what we’d do in Hartford, CT – we flew in on Saturday afternoon. We didn’t do much on Saturday, at all. We went out and had a nice dinner together and then headed back to the hotel and caught a movie…
On Sunday, we ended up driving South and spent the entire day in Mystic, CT, which turned out to be a lot of fun! We spent most of the day at the Aquarium with their whales, sea lions, seals, large aviary and fun indoor aquariums…(kind of like scuba diving..without all the equipment!) then the afternoon and evening at the Mystic Seaport, walking along the docks, seeing all the big (and small!) boats and ended up finding an obscure little restraunt that ended up serving the most amazing seafood I’ve ever had!
So, it wasn’t a weekend scuba diving in Miami – but it was a really nice weekend.. flying into a city neither of us had ever been to before and spent several hours discovering things to do and ways to entertain ourselves. The weather was beautiful, the food was superb and the company was…. excellent!
Back in June 2005, Chris and I went on a cruise .. it’s where he proposed. Back then, we picked up a loose gemstone called a Blue Tourmaline. I picked it up because I thought the color was beautiful – it reminded me of the tropical waters. We came home from the cruise and I put the gemstone in my jewlery box.. thinking I would do something with it someday…and then promptly forgot about it.
I was reminded yesterday. Chris stole that gemstone from my jewlery box at some point within the last year.. and he had it mounted on a beautiful pendant and gave it to me for our first anniversary.
Right this minute, I’m sitting in our hotel room while he and Dan (his business partner, who flew in late last night) are at their meeting. (Keep your fingers crossed for them – this deal will mean a LOT for them and their business!) When they’re done – the three of us will meet for lunch, and then hop on a plane and fly back home….and Chris flies back to Atlanta for the week.
When there is a will.. there is a way. 🙂
(for anyone trying to get a hold of me over the weekend – I’ll be back in the office bright and early tomorrow morning!)
Happy Anniversary! Ah, time. It goes so fast. 😉
Please tell me you had Mystic pizza.
Sounds like you had a great time, but I am going to have to hide this post from my wife lest she expect something similar from me next year!
For this years Anniversary (No.5) I finally bought her an eternity ring. Laura had been asking for one since our first anniversary, and I had always insisted I would never buy one though always planning to do so for this year. I’m such a tease. >:)
Anyways, tell Chris to stop treating you so well, he’s showing up the rest of us! 😉
Joelle – thanks!
We didn’t eat Mystic Pizza… I just couldn’t pass up the little hole-in-the-wall place on the docks that had all you can eat crab and lobster .. yum!
Though, I won’t dissapoint you – – I made Chris drive ALL over Mystic, CT to look for a place called “Mystic Pizza” . . . I wanted to go in an get a ‘To Go’ menu..or a napkin.. or something!
While we didn’t actually *find* the “Mystic Pizza” establishment… we did pass a “Mystic Pizza” delivery truck on the road! It was getting too late.. otherwise we would have followed him back to the joint. Ha!
Chris, believe it or not, had NEVER heard of the movie… so he thought I was out of my mind.
Stevie – it sounds like you’re treating Laura wonderfully . . an eternity ring! You’re a mooooshy romantic.. who would have known?? 🙂 Happy belated 5th to you and Laura 😀
Congratulations, honey. Is it bad that I have a lump in my throat? I knew your anniversary was coming up — it’s amazing what you can do in a year, huh?
I’m glad you’re doing something special.
xoxo
Aww, Jammie – thank you! It’s ok *hands you a tissue* – when Chris gave me my anniversary present, I got a little teary – – when he gave me the card – the tears flowed freely while I read it lol
I’m a sap!
xoxoxo!
Congratulations on reaching the one year mark!
May it be the start of many, many more.
Thank you, David! Here’s to year #2!
During the time I’ve been married, the one thing that I’ve found is that it doesn’t really matter where you are or what you’re doing – so long as you’re with the one you love. A large tub of Haagen Dazs will also do, if they’re not available. 😉
Congratulations on reaching a year!
My new design’s live by the way – in case you fancy a peek when you get back to the PC! 😉
It’s always good to hear of a man with a romantic memory. You need to post a picture of the pendant and I’m still ticked off at fate for not being able to make it to the wedding and I still have the gift under my desk. I’m horrible at remembering to send packages. I’ll save it for the day we actually get to have that girl’s only weekend bender. 🙂
Congratulations Lisa!! We took a family vacation to CT a few years back and ended up in Mystic. We did find the Mystic Pizza restaurant – it was on a historic street near a bridge (not helpful, I know). I also spent some time in the ER in Mystic, too, as I broke my ankle in the parking lot of the restaurant after dinner. No wine involved – just doing Mommy duties and chasing a toddler who darted into a busy parking area.
You two have the right idea – it is not where you spend your anniversary, but how you spend it that is important! Have a great time!
Well happy anniversary girl!!! Sounds like you had a blast!! I love to explore new places…my hubby on the other hand is just getting used to that idea :):) And you are very right…it isn’t where it is who it is spent with!! :):) Glad you had a good one!!
Dang, it sure doesn’t seem like it’s only been a year. Congrats on the first as well as many more to come.
Paul – thank you! and Haagen Dazs sounds like a lovely way to spend an anniversary! =p~
Chelle – I still have that weekend bender on my calendar in the future for… whenever. We’ll be 80 – but dammit, we’re gonna do it 🙂 Thanks! *k*
Char – broken ankles are NOT fun!
Was the Mystic Pizza good . . was Julia Roberts there? Heh!
Thanks 😀
Kristen – thank you! Exploring new places is always fun. Quite honestly, it doesn’t matter where you are – – you can always find SOMETHING to do. While I have you here… I’m *almost* ready to show you a prelim. mockup…can’t wait for you to see it 😀
Astro – that year went by really fast, didn’t it? Seems like just yesterday I was blogging about my pre-wedding nerves… only to find out, a year later, there was really nothing to be nervous about at all! 😀 Thanks >:d<
Happy Wedding Day! 🙂
