Message in a Bottle

lsw-x

So, we watched Message in a Bottle last night.

I cried my fool eyes out.

Oh, shush. It’s a chick thing.

City of AngelsThe ending was horrible, though. Why is it that we always expect a happy ending in films?

The worst movie ending ever?

City of Angels.

I saw it in a movie theater one afternoon. I seriously wanted to sue someone over the ending of that movie.

  1. I know what you mean! I was the same way at the end of Terminator 2! I mean, when Arnold was sacrificing himself for the future lowering himself into that pit of molten metal! I’m not sure how anybody can keep a dry eye there! And the end of The Killer? Same thing:twisted:…

  2. Nahhhhhh, I can’t see me doing something like that!:grin:

There are worse things than the ending to City of Angels (which part of me did like intellectually, although not emotionally). We tried watching Birth Friday night, which I gave a chance because it sounded intriguing and had Nicole Kidman. I’m not sure we made it a half hour in before shutting it off. I think that’s the second movie I’ve shut off in ten years. Artsy fartsy boring bullshit!

If you need another cryfest, try checking out The Notebook. Beautiful movie, and might have got a tear or two out of me…

  3. I feel your pain on the movie City of Angels. I had the sound track of that movies before I could find a babysitter to go watch it in the theater.. when I finally say it I was so mad I threw the track away.

I read the book Message in a bottle but I have yet to see the movie.

  4. I love watching movies,, but I can’t always watch these type of movies more than once because I can’t take the crying I end up doing. Occasionally I am in a crap mood and purposefully put myself through them again but thankfully it’s not that often. I remember the first time I ever saw the musical “The King and I” I was mad at the ending,, think I was about 12 yrs old and told my mother I never wanted to watch it again, lol.

  5. We watched Return to Me last night (tough choice with Princess Mononoke in the competition…). Mrs. Knight had seen it a couple times already, but I hadn’t. She really enjoyed it (again) and I really liked it as well. Horrible idea that’s done amazingly well with a lot of heart and humor. Both David Duchovny and Minnie Driver did great jobs (with fantastic backups by Robert Loggia, Carrol O’Conner, Helen Hunt, and Jim Belushi), and although I never thought I’d say this in this lifetime, Minnie Driver was actually cute!

  6. Worst movie ending ever? Has to be Leaving Las Vegas. The credits rolled and the lights came up and the whole theater decamped to find razor blades. So depressing.

  7. All of Leaving Las Vegas was depressing. The ending fit the movie. I can’t say that it was a feel good movie, but at least it didn’t cop out at the end.

  8. I know what you mean, Lisa, and I felt that way about a movie just recently but for the life of me, I can’t remember what movie. Must not have been that impressionable.

  9. Heh, I cried at the end of Message in a Bottle too. It’s when I discovered that women love nothing more than a man crying at something they find sentimental. I’m awful.

  10. Oh, lordy.

I plugged in COA mere winky hours after breaking up with the best boy in the world.

No one warned me. I think my friends secretly hate me. Damn them.

A bath towel o’ tears later, I tossed the flick out past the veranda and into the branches of a magnolia tree.

Three years later it’s still up there, glinting at me, mocking me.

Other than that, I rather liked the ending.

  11. I just saw Message in a Bottle for the first time this week. I HATED the ending! I wish that movies like that would have an alternate ending on the CD as well, so you can still enjoy the movie and not be depressed! What I didn’t understand was when he dove into the water and hesitated before trying to save the lady. Was that to imply he knew he wouldn’t make it and was choosing to be with his dead wife over the Theresa?

  12. in the book ‘message in a bottle’ garett decided that he’d do anything to be with theresa. he went to throw one last message to catherine in the sea and got caught up in a storm and died it was truely tragic

  13. I know I am approaching being 7 years late with this comment…but after seeing Message in a Bottle..I wanted my money back… We went to see it at a midnight sneak preview. The theatre was FULL of women…most of whom had read the book..and..of course expected to see the ending that was in the book. Needless to say..we didn’t get what we wanted..talk about an angry mob…considering the reaction I’m surprised there wasn’t a march on the movie studio consisting of tens of thousands of unfullfilled frustrated females. I vowed never to watch that movie again..but I was thinking about it the other day and wondering if by chance there was a DVD version with an alternate ending. I gather from the posts that there probably isn’t…However if anyone ever hears of one I would like to see it.
