Cruisin'

Wow – this is a lot of color for me, hey? (note: Astro – you should like the bikini… even if it’s only an illustration!) My usual templates on this site are pretty minimalistic. Shades of muted blues, greys, whites. BUT! I needed some cheery, colorful motivation for the upcoming cruise. (OH! If you don’t see the new theme – use the drop down menu in the sidebar where it says “Skin This Site” – and browse to the “Crusin’ Theme!) We leave on Sept. 1, 2005 – – flying first to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Then board the ship and […]

Homeward Bound!

While we have adored our stay in Alabama these past two weeks…. all of the rain, tropical storms, hurricanes and everything…. we are getting packed up and ready to skeeeedatttle our butts back home! We have learned a few things while we were here… 1.) Catching two 14-inch bass is a hell of a lot more fun than cleaning them and eating them! – 2 of ’em really don’t provide much of a meal once you take the head and tale off and fillet those suckers! 2.) Don’t walk around the muddy banks of Alabama without shoes on!! What are […]

With a Chaser

The storm wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. We’re safe and alive . . for those who have inquired. Just like everyone told me – – it was a bit of rain, a bit of wind and that was really about it for us. The current winds are 10-12 mph with an approximate rainfall of 3 inches for the day. Overall – not bad. We lived. It was all fine – further proving the extent of my storm neurosis to Chris and family. It’s ok, though – I can take it. I’m neurotic when it comes to […]

The Big Question

Can my children, Melissa and Ben, actually have FUN together when they are held hostage in a itty bitty town (pop. 811) in the middle of Nowhere, Alabama. Away from their friends. No computers. No video games. Very limited access to television. Can they actually have a good time…TOGETHER… when they aren’t at home trying to be cool around all of their buddies?? The answer…. Mind you, these pictures were taking from the back of a speeding boat. While my camera does have an auto-image stabalizer.. I think I have yet to figure out how to hold still while taking […]

Blogging Dennis

We have spend the day today tying things down and putting away things that could potentially sprout wings and fly when Hurricane Dennis makes his way through these parts. The track map looks a LOT more hopeful for us today than it has in days past: If Dennis stays this course – it looks like we’ll catch the very outside of him. I’m a total basket case in bad storms. It stems from 1981 when two tornados hit our neighborhood taking out almost everything in a 10 block area. Our own home was one of maybe 5 that were left […]

DOS Hell

What a vacation so far! Last night, Tropical Storm Cindy came raging through here with all of it’s mighty force. It wasn’t so bad at all – – considering that I am stormphobic to begin with. Lots of heavy rain, wind, lightening and thunder battered our home. This morning, the lake looks like a mud puddle – – all of the mud ran off the land into the lake and it’s solid brown out there. Right before she hit – Chris and I made a WalMart run (WalMart is the only store in this area aside from a couple of […]

Expecting Company

If we knew we were going to be spending the week with Cindy and Dennis – we would have made more room! Don’t you HATE univited guests???

Yeeeeehaw!

So, here we are – living in the south for the next 2 weeks. It’s already been an experience! For the 4th of July – we went to a fireworks show! It wasn’t the hour-long BIG BANG! that we are used to in Milwaukee down at the shore of Lake Michigan. No – this was done Lake Wedowee style. That’s right – – we all hopped in our trucks and drove up the road to the Citgo station! Yep – you heard it – – the fireworks show was held at the gas station down the street! We parked on […]

Home Sweet Home

We arrived home on Tuesday evening from absolutely Nowhere, Alabama. The lake house is gorgeous and we had a nice time relaxing all weekend long. And when I say relaxing – – I mean it. We were completely disconnected all weekend from Fri – Tuesday. No internet. No Phone. No cell phones. It wasn’t intentional. The DSL company was supposed to hook up our internet on Friday. They also happen to be the phone company down there – – and they didn’t show up until Tuesday morning to do the hook ups. So we were without any way to connect […]

Drinks with Fruit and Umbrellas

Can’t you just picture me there? I can. That’s where I’ll be headed on September 3rd. Chris and I just booked an 8-day cruise! We leave Ft. Lauderdale on the 3rd and head to St. Thomas, St. Maartens and Princess Cays Island. Now, if that doesn’t perk up my winter doldrums, I don’t know what will! We’re going with two other couples. Dan and Tammy – Chris’s business partner and his wife… and Tim and Libby – – one of their clients and her husband. We had talked about taking a ski trip to Brekenridge this year, but someone piped […]
