Happy Day!

lsw-x

To all the nurses out there, and I know there a few you out there in blogland – Happy National Nurses Day!

Did your employer remember you today? Mine didn’t. Which is no big deal, really – in the past decade, I can’t remember an employer who actually did. One of my employers said they wouldn’t recognize the nurses on that day because then they’d be ignoring the rest of the team who contribute just as much. Other employers just look at you with a blank stare and say, “Oh, is today Nurse’s Day?”.

Ah well – – we know what we do, don’t we? We don’t need no stinkin’ recognition!

Nurses Day Fact Sheet

I have a plaque that hangs on my wall in my office that says:

Being a nurse means . . .

You will never be bored.
You will always be frustrated.
You will be surrounded by challenges.
So much to do and so little time.
You will carry immense responsibility
and very little authority.
You will step into people’s lives
and you will make a difference.
Some will bless you.
Some will curse you.
You will see people at their worst –
and at their best.
You will never cease to be amazed
at people’s capacity for
love, courage, and endurance.
You will see life begin – and end.
You will experience resounding triumphs
and devastating failures.
You will cry a lot.
You will laugh a lot.
You will know what it is to be human
and to be humane.

For all of you out there – – thank you for all that you do.

  1. Gee, forgot about that. Let’s see, missed the appreciation dinner and breakfast cause wasn’t at work. Did get the Starbucks gift certificate and we will get gifts next week which have ranged from back packs to stainless steel coffee mugs, the nice ones. Always remembered, always.

  2. I think that’s crapyy about what your boss thinks about this day. Ummm yeah others are working hard, but you went to school and work hard, and understaffed. In my opinion Teachers, Nurses, Police Officers, are the least appreciated in their fields. Well I’ll ge off my soapbox now. Again, a big fat dating game kiss and thanks for all you do.

  3. I’m sorry you weren’t recognized. Knowing what kind of nurse you are, I can tell you that people definitely appreciate you. I’m sure they can’t always express it though, considering some of the circumstances.

My mother in law is a nurse and her employer had things going on all week, that were Hawaiian themed…wrapping up the week tomorrow with a luau. Cool, huh?

So, I’ll be thinking island thoughts of you on this special day.

  4. I seldom was recognized when I was working because I was in Management and my boss would forget. I never forgot to recognize the Nurses who worked for me though and I always gave them one extra day off with pay during the month of May and them and their SO could have dinner out on the company that month and file it on their expense report. My boss might not recognize me but I stuck it to the Company..however the nurses deserved. I think there is no type of Nurse who deserves it more than a Hospice Nurse Lisa and I am sorry you wre not recognized. However you have shown the type of Nurse you are when you chose to return to Field Nursing and not remain in the Office you recieve your rewards everytime you visit your patients.

  5. Happy Nurses Day Lisa and all of us hardworking, caring nurses! My employer always gives us something – this year a Jamba Juice card, a leather business card holder and a nice nurses car mug.
