Happy Holidays!

Stuff in My Head

There’s been a WHOLE lotta work going on around here..and not so much play. It’s alright, though… I get a short reprieve the weekend of the 27th when I get to leave all this work behind for a few days and attend the Blogher conference. So far, I’m looking forward to meeting up with Kathy, Leanne, the folks from Wiley and (possibly) my wonderful clients over at Crank Mama (it was through their post that I found this interesting recipe for a Perfect Martini that sounds like the closest I will ever come to a religious experience). Crank Mama is […]

I ran into an old friend today

Well, I didn’t really run into her – I found her through an internet search on Google. I wasn’t searching for her, but I found her because she is a freelance editor/writer on the topic that I was searching for. It was interesting because I found her articles and started reading them. They were really good and very well written. I felt drawn to the author through her writing and the sharing of her own experiences. When I viewed the author byline, it listed her name – which I did not recognize (she got married and changed her last name), […]

Survived!

Well, I survived possibly the worst cold/flu in history. At least in MY history. It’s still not completely over, but at least I’m functioning. I spent the entire holiday weekend in bed alternating Nyquil with Advil and probably went through 3 packages of completely useless cough drops in the process. I’ve completely lost my voice, much to the pleasure of the rest of my family. I’ve had to put off several client calls and a radio interview (sorry, Dave!) because of the lack of sound coming from my mouth. The voice is finally coming back today – won’t my family […]

I'm a Mess

I woke up this morning with a horrendous cold of some sort, have nearly lost my voice and I have three conference calls, a lunch date and a radio interview to do today. When I was contemplating self-employment years ago, somone warned me, “You know, Lisa – you’re not really able to call in sick and have someone cover you for the day.” Truer words have never been spoken. Plus, I have a sliver in my finger.

Random thoughts for the day . . .

Sometimes taking off in the middle of a work day to visit the garden center to buy a few pretty blooms is necessary. 85 degrees is way too hot for a day in early May – especially when I plan to do work outside. Especially when a well meaning friend reminds you to wear sunscreen, and you don’t. Thinking you know better – you head out to get the planting done and end up with a sunburn and a friend who knew better. Having one or two really close friends who know and understand you, completely 100% through and through, […]

Happiness is. . .

Finding one cookie in the bottom of a package that you thought was empty! A few weeks back, Chris traveled to England for business. He put one small suitcase inside another larger suitcase. On his trip home – he came back with his clothes in the small suitcase and absolutely filled the larger suitcase the the brim with biscuits and Marmite. Now, the Marmite I can totally do without – that stuff is just… IEW. I have heard that in order to even like Marmite, you have to have grown up with the stuff. Originally from the UK, Chris did […]

Feedback required – yea, that means you!

As you can probably guess – I’ve been spending large portions of my days writing like a fiend and working to meet the deadlines for the WordPress for Dummies book. I shall have 25% of the book completed in about another two weeks – of course, that is before my editors get their hands on it and whip out their red pens and send it back to me… but, at least, until then – I will have the satisfaction of at least feeling like it’s done and accomplished. I’ll just put the pending red pen edits out of my mind […]

Paging Dr. Google

Physicians are doing exactly what their patients have been doing for years – Googling your illness. I don’t know how many times I’ve Googled my own symtpoms and have diagnosed myself with some rare form of fingernail cancer that only happens in third world tropics, ya know what I’m saying? I’ll never forget the day my mother called me to say that she’d been Googling the symptoms my father was having and afraid he had cervical cancer. Forget the fact that he would require a cervix before that diagnosis could be made. Lets hope that our doctors are a bit […]
