Designer Job Posting

Work, work, work…it’s my reason for the lack of updates here. It’s looking up, though – I actually got a final print date on the book, which is very exciting. I’ll just say that it’s soon! In other news, we’ve put a call for designers over at E.Webscapes, once again! The demand for our services has been growing at a steady rate and we’re looking to hire one one or two more designers who are experienced with graphic design, CSS and the popular blogging platforms available today (mainly WordPress – but Expression Engine, MT and Typepad as well). Interested? Visit […]

Sandbox Designs Competition Complete

Awhile ago I posted about the Sandbox Designs Competition that started back in June. The competition is now complete and the winning designs have been announced and displayed. First prize went to Arpit Jacob for SandPress, which is a really sharp and clean theme. Congrats to all the winners of the competition and big kudos to all the designers who participated. The WP community gets to benefit greatly from all of these new and great themes, based on the Sandbox Theme. Congrats to Scott Wallick for running a sane (I think ?) and successful competition, and to the judges who […]

Stuff in My Head

There’s been a WHOLE lotta work going on around here..and not so much play. It’s alright, though… I get a short reprieve the weekend of the 27th when I get to leave all this work behind for a few days and attend the Blogher conference. So far, I’m looking forward to meeting up with Kathy, Leanne, the folks from Wiley and (possibly) my wonderful clients over at Crank Mama (it was through their post that I found this interesting recipe for a Perfect Martini that sounds like the closest I will ever come to a religious experience). Crank Mama is […]

Saying Goodbye to Sponsored Themes

It started about a year ago, or so. Maybe more, but it was about a year ago that I started noticing a trend at the WordPress themes site. Designers were putting up this new breed of free themes called ‘Sponsored Themes’ – pretty much it meant they were selling links to appear in the free theme to sponsors/advertisers interested. It didn’t take long for spammers sponsors to realize that having a link from a decent free WP theme could mean some excellent returns, from a incoming link count perspective. I’ve been approached by several different types of sponsors: Sponsors who […]

Interviewed on VOISD

A few months back, Mike from the VOISD Webmaster Blog, requested an interview with me – which I was happy to participate in. We discuss my experiences as a freelance designer and my company, E.Webscapes – as well as my upcoming, soon-to-be-released, book, WordPress for Dummies, due to be published in September ’07. We talk about WordPress and why it is such a popular tool to use and whether or not I feel the freelance design market is saturated since the ‘blog boom’. Mike also has published a few other articles and interviews that were interesting: How to Automate Your […]

Yet Another Photo Blog (YAPB) – WordPress Plugin

All work & no play. . makes me kinda grumyish, ya know? So, I took a bit of a break yesterday and gave a complete overhaul to my photoblog, SnappingPhotos.com. It was fun, quick and easy – I wanted the design to be VERY light and simple. I am pretty sure I succeeded with that –you don’t get much more light and simple than this: While you are at it – check out a few of the photos I have posted recently: A little history… The photoblog started in 2005 and it was powered by WordPress one point something back […]

Backlogged..just a little bit

It’s amazing what one full week of being down with a serious cold/flu can do to a persons productivity – oy! It’s lots of coffee and late, late nights for me for the next several days just to catch up to where I need to be. I’m currently working on a WordPress MU site design and setup for a client of mine. I’m pretty excited about it because this is really the first WordPress MU site development that I’ve done for a client. I’ve toyed with MU quite a lot in the past, but nothing too serious. And, of course, […]

What Makes a Successful Designer?

What do you feel you need to accomplish to be a success? Perhaps it’s all about the money, or enjoying yourself? Maybe you want to win awards, or go freelance? Maybe you’ll only feel successful once you own your own company? I got tagged with this by Paul Enderson of Reflections – originally started by Lauren Marie Krause in an effort to gather thoughts from other freelance designers on the topic they love the most – designing! Thanks Paul, nothing like a little self-reflection in the middle of my day to keep me focused! I’ve been in the design business […]

Got Your Sunglasses On?

I know.. I know – – really bright, hey? Yea.. well, I’ve been pretty dark over the past several months.. design wise – and I felt it was time to brighten things up around here a little. Ok – a lot! It’s springtime. I’m done with my book. It’s time to shed some baggage and feel a little lighter and brighter as I head into summer. I know it’s a lot to adjust to… but hopefully it will grow on you the way it grew on me while I was designing it. I still have a few adjustments to make […]

Yes, I am Procrastinating

2 days to go on the book deadline – – will she make it? Or will she lose her sanity in the process? Time will tell. I have yet to finish the chapters for WordPress MU, but am getting there! I do have my Amazon.Com Connect Blog – so this is getting more and more real every day. Eek! Is the redesign of a blog a spring cleaning type of thing? I just helped Aaron launch his new design over at Technosailor. And Leanne just launched her own beautiful new design today. Is it a spring thing? I’m getting the […]
