Continuing along with my line of WordPress-themed books, I am currently working on adding a new title to my WordPress arsenal: WordPress Web Design For Dummies (published by Wiley Publishing: For Dummies division). WordPress Web Design For Dummies will focus completely on designing web sites with WordPress. The book assumes you already have knowledge of how to use WordPress (ie: you have already read my other book, WordPress For Dummies) – and you want to learn more about designing web sites with WordPress.
Earlier this year, I was interviewed by Smashing Magazine for their “Women in Web Design: Group Interview” article. They asked some really interesting questions, and present all of our answers together in one huge mash up of female web design wisdom and goodness. I’m super honored to be listed among that group of fine ladies — and have to say, a little tickled pink to have been asked since I’ve been a raving fan of Smashing Magazine for quite some time!
I have finally re-designed my site after 2 long years of my old black and pink one! Not that I didn’t like the old design . . . but it was time for something new, springy, fun, light – before summertime ran out! This time around, I tried something different and used a theme framework called Builder from my good friends over at iThemes. I’ve been wanting to dig into frameworks for some time now, and figured the best place to do that is on my own personal site where I can dig in, get my hands dirty and see what all the fuss was about! Welcome to my redesign – – don’t forget to notice the pink!
I had a really great time at iThemes Builder Bootcamp weekend in Oklahoma and want to send out a big thanks to Cory Miller, Jen Miller and the rest of the iThemes team for inviting me down to their event. There were roughly 70-75 people in attendence, all of them passionate WordPress users, and all of them part of the iThemes community. Many were from the Oklahoma City general area – but there were a handful that flew in hundreds of miles away to spend the weekend with the iThemes crew to learn more about WordPress and how they can use the iThemes offerings to build their web sites with WordPress. Great stuff!
Oklahoma City, anyone? I’ve never been there before – but I will be this month to join the fabulous team from iThemes for their Builder BootCamp. iThemes creates premium WordPress themes, plugins and they host ‘BootCamps’ for their clients, and anyone else who wants to learn about how they can use the iThemes Builder WordPress theme framework to make awesome web sites.
While at SXSW 2010 in Austin, TX – the folks from Wiley Publishing caught up with me and did a short video interview for Amazon.com on my books, WordPress For Dummies and BuddyPress For Dummies.
While at SXSW 2010 in Austin, I spent some time with Cory Miller of WebDesign.Com and iThemes.com, who interviewed me about WordPress, my books and design work.
I’m really excited about the opportunity to speak at WordCamp NYC – At 9:15 am Saturday morning – November 14 – I will take the stage and talk about growing communities with BuddyPress. This presentation will take a look at the features BuddyPress currently offers to help you grow your own community on your web site, including some tips and tricks I’ve come across along the way to help de-mystify the BuddyPress themes and templates to help you on your way to customizing your own BuddyPress community site.
‘m leaving this morning – hopping a flight in Milwaukee and arriving in Austin around 3pm for the SXSW Interactive Festival this weekend. I’m excited to go and looking forward to seeing everyone there. It’s been a lot of hard work and several sleepless nights over the past few weeks preparing for the activities at SXSW – but I made it! I got done what needed to get done and now all I have to do is get there! I just fired off an email to my friends at ServerBeach with the 5 premium WordPress themes that they will be giving away at their exhibit booth..
I’ve been spending the past 2 weeks preparing for my trip to the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, TX. This will be my third trip down to Austin for SXSW and I’m really looking forward to attending this year. Normally, there’s always a great deal to do before I take off for 5 days to attend the biggest geek gathering ever! I normally work long hours to make sure that all my client projects are either done, or well on their way to done and make sure everything I need on my home PC is set up for remote access, etc, etc. THIS year, however – it’s been a bit more crazy than usual because I’ve been working on developing five (5) premium WordPress themes that will be released at SXSW at the ServerBeach exhibit booth..
