Aruba

lsw-x

I’ve watched the news coverage on the Natalee Halloway case for the past month. It’s a sad case and I really feel for her folks every time I see them interviewed on TV.

Aruba handles things differently than the US when it comes to their law enforcement. Of course they do, they are a different country after all. It’s interesting to watch the coverage on Greta’s show and the commentary on Bill O’Reilly. Everyone seems to want to impose US law and law enforcement techniques in this case. Leaves me wondering if an Aruban citizen went missing here in the US – would Aruba come up here and try and enforce their laws here . . and then get indignant when we made them stand on the side lines?

Watching Bill O’Reilly last night – I was just left shaking my head. Ol’ Bill was interviewing a gentleman from the Prosecutors office in Aruba and he didn’t give him a break at all. O’Reilly kept pressing and pressing over when the case would be solved and when there would be an official arrest and conviction. O’Reilly made the statement that, for Aruba’s sake, he hoped the law enforcement solved this case soon – or the travel to Aruba would come to a stand still. He talked about the political pressure being placed on the government and Aruba’s relations with the United States and if the gentleman thought that the two countries political relationship would suffer over this until they made a conviction in the case?

The poor gentleman from Aruba just stood there and stoically took the abuse. O’Reilly was flabbergasted that they haven’t officially named the person responsible for the crime!

The gentleman from Aruba quietly replied and reminded O’Reilly that it took the law enforcement in California 6 months to officially arrest Scott Peterson – even though he was a strong suspect, until they found the body of Laci Peterson – they could not arrest him or place him into custody without enough evidence to support it.

On another evening, I watched Mark Furman read the riot act to a woman from Aruba’s Prosecutors office. He was on a rant about the solving of this case – questioning why it had not been solved yet. Why hasn’t the body been found yet? Making strong statements that the tourism to Aruba will suffer – – political relations will suffer! Then the woman from Aruba respectfully asked about the missing person’s cases in the United States – and how many of those cases are currently open without convictions or arrests? How long have those cases been open and remain unsolved?

These things don’t happen overnight, as everyone knows. And without the gathering of sufficient evidence and confessions – the case can’t really go to court with a leg to stand on.

Aruba is a small island – so one would think that a case like this would be easier to solve. There has been much misinformation surrounding this story – and in watching the coverage, I’m unsure if the bad information is coming from the Aruban authorities or from the media that’s turned it into 24/7 infotainment.

The stress is high. Everyone wants this case solved, no doubt. If there is a cover up going on, or if the investigation is being botched big time – – I can see reason for the criticism (as if the US never botches an investigation (See how Florida law enforcement failed to read John Couey his miranda rights in the Jessica Lundsford case, for example).

  1. Aruba is not part of the USA Mr. O’Reilly. They have different laws than we do! People will not stop traveling there. It is a wonderful place. This is an unfortunate situation. How many murders/disappearances have there been on the island in the past 10 years?
Let’s not convict these kids just yet. They may have been involved, but it may be that they weren’t and are scared to death that they will be convicted of something they didn’t do.

  2. And the Couey situation: Thank-you to Bill O for pushing that story at least once a week. That I do mean sincerely!

  3. Right on the mark Lisa. In the absence of any evidence that she is even dead, all of these suspects would have been freed in less than a day if the case occured here in the US. I also know of several Kidnappings / murders that have occured in my own county that have happenedsince the Aruba case and I haven’t Mr O’Reilly mention a single one of them. Sad thing is he is probably right, the Aruba tourist trade will be negativly effected by this even if it is far safer than any US city you care to mention. I mentioned on my blog when this first started that it was gauling that the US media completely failed to understand that US laws didn’t have juristiction in Aruba, it seems that a month’s stewing in their juices hasn’t cured them any of their misconceptions

  4. As a travel agent, I recall from a few years ago the sudden disappearance of a young woman on a cruise ship that made a stop in Aruba. Some male employees from the ship took this woman to a tourist place. She supposedly came back to the ship, but the next morning she had disappeared. The tourist stop was Carlos and Charlies.Any connection????

  5. I thought the picture of the suspect leaving the court, with Shades on and a big smile on his face was strange. I not sure hat was funny, but it sure pissed me off!

Something is rotten in the state of Aruba!

  6. I agree with this girl’s site. I am American and married to an Aruban and IT IS SAFE there and it happens in the US every 5 minutes and once in a blue moon in Aruba. I feel for her and her family, but did anyone ever blame the chaperones? Why didn’t they do a head count at night and what are 17 and 18 year olds doing at 1:30 am downtown in a different country? All of those kids were drinking (other American guests have given statements) it was not the responsibility of the bar, it was of her friends, the chaperones and each person for themselves. Natalee was a straight A student, so why did she even speak to boys down there? If she would of just went for innocent fun with her friends and the chaperones kept wraps on them then she would be here today. It is not Aruba’s fault. Take a look at other parts of the world today, like all the young men dying for our country! I do pray there is closure to the case, but people especially finger pointing Americans need to quit being so rude. That is one reason other countries hate us!

  7. Hundreds of children, girls and women are abused, tortured, raped and killed by white men in USA each day.

It is amazing these cable news channels are sticking to one instance of an ‘American’ girl missing in Aruba.

I wonder if the same amount of attention and coverage would have been given if the missing girl was a black or hispanic?

  8. i also agree with most of these coments, i think its sad , but if anything like this happened to me i would hope like hell my mom and the people involved in the investigation would not give up and would keep pressing until they found out what happened to me.as far as race goes, like would it be such a big deal if it was a black or hispanic girl i think its alot about they family or people involved in the case and how much drive they have to catch these people,i hope every one will watch out for each other always, anywere and never take for granted the life we live 😆 love makes everything worth while

  10. Interesting, AG. never said he wasn’t guilty, though – – I always felt he was. I just disagree with how critical the US media has been with the way the Arubans/Dutch have handled this investigation.

if Aruba made mistakes…. it happens. someone tell me that American law enforcement is perfect all the time? hell, it took us California authorities, what??.. 6-8 months to get Scott Peterson behind bars?

Arbua had Vander Sloot behind bars much quicker than that – while attempting to prove the case. At least, if he is guilty, he’s been off the streets this whole time while they investigate.

I think he’s guilty as hell – and hopefully they prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

  11. Hey lisa, wake up this wasnt a mistake it was a bad fuck up, waiting 2 weeks to arrest and start searching for this girl was idiotic, dont try to say the auban made mistakes like the us or even close, you look like a ignorant person when you say that. Reality check:

No its not normal to make mistakes like this one

No, it didnt take that long they found out within 1 week that he did it and court took 6-8 months.

P.S. you sound like an ignorant person, please try to learn more about crime and get more knowledge while your at it.

  12. well, AG – at least I responded to your comment without calling you out on your ignorance. I was trying to be nice.

It’s not normal to make mistakes in law enforcement? Are you trying to infer that the US doesn’t make mistakes with missing persons cases? I can’t imagine you would be attempting to draw that conclusion?

I’m not arguing with you on the kids guilt.. or even arguing that Aruba may have made mistakes in their investigation of this case – just pointing out the mere fact that for the US to be pointing fingers at Aruba for flubbing up this investigation is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black, ya know?

  13. Atleast they (US) dont wait 2 weeks to search for clues and arrest people. You can cough all yo want but you know thats true.

  14. It’s possible that the lack of a body – dead or alive… and the absence of any physical forensic evidence, whatsoever, could have had something to do with that. 🙄

  15. im sorry to say this but Lisa your an idiot.
The lack of body might have somthing to do with it? Yea ok, i dont think so. It seems like your a hardheaded person. Waiting 2 weeks because there wasnt a body???? They still dont have a body now and people have been in and out of jail for that past 2 months. And what does that say about a governent, i mean in the US we do things correctly, and search everything we can during the first days of a missing person.
Also considering that the boys admitted to being with natalee during the night of her dissaperence prior to the arrest, witnesses, AND her friends told authorities that they saw her go into the boys car.
SOrry Lisa but yet again you are wrong.

  16. AG – I’m sorry to say this, but we disagree on the topic.

See how I can say that without feeling like I need to call you an idiot?

    THanks for stopping by.

  17. I agree with you americangirl, its just not right to wait that long and waste all of that time, they couldve hidden that body within days of her dissapearance. I blame the Aruban government for this, as an american myself i know that the united states would never wait that long, we have standards and morals, no IF AND or BUTS.Here in the US they rtack your everymove and watch you until the case is solved. And about Lisas comment on scott peterson, he was arrested within days of laceys dissapearence, nobody went in and out of jail and got away with contacting other people and talking about the case behind bars, or not behind bars, without the FBI tapping every phone line, and listening to every word, and here in the us seizing any cars involved in the case, and putting a tracking device on it. The US isnt stupid, all these things helped scott get put away for good, like a murderer should be put away. I dont know if you recall but that car, the boat and everything in the house was seized by the authorities, thats what they shouldve done in this case. So please dont compare aruba to america, its just like 2 different worlds and standards. And its very offensive to hear from an american point of view.

  18. Well i wouldnt call you an idiot if you hadnt acted like one. I just tolerate those kind of people, those that are blind to facts right in front of them.
sorry if offended you its just the truth speaking.

  19. Reading the last few comments, I can’t help but wonder how much AG and Flrdn have travelled outside of the States. I also can’t think of a single time when a personal attack strengthened one’s argument…

  20. Astro – apparently some folks think the personal attacks strengthen their side of the argument.

Of course, my initial point of this whole post was pointing out that the US media being so critical of the Aruban authorities is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

Wasn’t actually arguing the actual case itself, just pointing out that America ain’t perfect either.

Kinda like when the Florida authorities failed to read John Couey his rights – – potentially striking his initial confessions from the record. Oops.

AG – if you can’t have an intelligent debate with out the shit flinging you seem to be doing, I’m gonna have to ask you to go play with someone else. I have no tolerance for that crap.

  21. americangirl,

You mention that some people are,

blind to facts right in front of them

Well, missy. If you are privvy to some facts in this case I think you should stop spending so much time calling other people idiots.

You could be better utilized on the island of Aruba helping to solve the case. In fact, if you know the facts of this case, beyond what you have already disclosed, you should be doing something about it.

The only fact anyone knows for sure, is that Natalee got in the car with those boys. Period.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and we can all see what has been done wrong in this case. That is a fact.

Nothing else is fact, it is sheer speculation, so I highly recommend that you step off your soap-box (there is only room for one of those around here) and apologize to Lisa, as she has done nothing but make a simple observation.

  22. Gotta love guests who come in and call their hostess an idiot, huh Lisa?

Well I am disappointed with the intelligence level of those who seem to think that Aruba handled this case poorly. It is their country, Natalee was a foreigner to them. How would the US handle a foreigner being murdered while they were on vacation here in the States? Anyone have any cases to cite on that one?

For someone to think that the US would have immediately known who to arrest? Asenine. For anyone to believe we would have handled this better? Again, asenine. The crime rate in Aruba is nil compared to the States, so I feel pretty safe saying that they know what they’re doing down there.

What we’re doing now? Encouraging more hatred toward the US. Our media harassed them during their process, and played no small part in screwing things up. Now we (the US) are there imposing our ways on their people.

I feel pretty crappy about it as an American. I feel horrible for Natalee’s family, they do need closure. I am not sure they’ll ever get that, now.

  23. Re: #14

    Please dont call me Missy.
Now besides the fact that authorities know MORE than the fact the natalee went in the car with the 3 boys, and they are crooked and tend to hide, loose or shuffle away obvious facts, BUT if you dont know that by now im not saving you, read up on it and find out.If this kid spiked girls drinks, then his capability to rape and kill are much easier. Im not trying to be on a soap box but i understand that your ignorance has gotten the best of yo and you cant stand to be another wrong person,Im not saying im perfect, but in this matter i seem to know more than you, dont take it in the wrong way (as i see you already have) Take your feelings out of this one for just a few minutes and stand up and try to take this information as a statement NOT a Put down. And just because i was right to begin with, with ALL of my statement, and it seems to me that everyone in this room must be having a bad day, from the looks of the bitchyness in comments, is not somthing to cry about.

    Attn: Leanne
You seem to think Aruba is a good place and safe (laugh) place too. Well i dont think youve been watching the news on this case too much because you seem to be in the dark. And YES the US would have handled it MUCH MUCH MUCH better i could bet my life on it.Because by now there would have been answers WHY you ask???
Well the answer to that is quite simple, for one the parents of Natalee wouldve been informed on the whereabouts of her daughter be it dead or alive, and Why you ask again???
Because we wouldnt have let these 3 scumbags hang out in lala land covering up all evidence and clean all of their clothes , car, etc for 2 WHOLE WEEKk, that is just absurd that they (Aruban Government) Gave such a lonmg, and not to mention OPEN leeway to these boys. The aruban governement didnt even watch these boys b=moves during this time I mean how Idiodic is that????
We in the US dont play around and wait around for 2 weeks. The US is not stupid. Seems to me like you are leaning more towards that side. I mean seriously if you think that the aruban governemnt shouldnt be criticised for this your …. umm well i wont go there.

    Good day to all

  24. Also,
Well yea, Im really going to go to Aruba, as a 25 year old female that is not a detective or police woman and do somthing about it.
I dont know if your serious or just plain ignorant. I hope you all seek pshychiatric therapy you seem like you need it.

  25. AG – you have the nerve to ask someone ‘not to call you missy’ ? ha! All the while, you are trying to strengthen your argument and add some credibility to your statements by calling others ignorant, idiots and telling us we need psychiatric help?

Again – pot calling the kettle black.

I believe I asked you nicely to quit with the personal attacks. I think I even mentioned that I don’t tolerate it here.

I’m done being nice. Piss off, ‘american girl’ or whoever you are 😀

  26. 😆

    People really amaze me sometimes!

BTW there was a family living down the street from a friend of mine, they were having a family dispute that was loud enough to cause concern, so the neighbor called the police. Guess what? The house was FULL of pipe bombs, etc… enough to kill (thousands) of people.

From what AG says, our police must have already known about them though, they must have just been waiting for the right time to close in on all that terrorist activity, right?

And how long did it take the police to figure out about the runaway bride? Oh wait! She CALLED HOME, that’s when they figured it out! Oh they were all over that one, too!

    🙄

  27. Hmmmm. I dunno, Lisa. Maybe AG is right. If she calls you a “poopyhead” next I’m probably going to have to switch over to her side…:twisted:

  28. 😛 I’ve visited Aruba 3 times. It’s a great party island. For all the partying and drugs that is going on down there, I can’t believe that there is not more crime. I would assume that this is due to the fact that the locals, nor the tourist want to get in any kind of trouble with another countries legal system, kind of like what is going on now.

I put myself in situations when I was in Aruba, where I could have been easily taken advantage of, and never once was I violated. I even went out by myself to the bars (b/c I was there with family) and stayed out all night, leaving the bars with different guys in different vehicles, going to beaches/their house/hotels/the lighthouse that Natalee went to/etc. Let me just say that I didn’t have sex with any of them (except one, and it was my choice) and there were many different guys that I left with and hung out with(smokign weed, doing coke, skinny dipping, bar hopping, etc).
The local guys and the tourist were always respectful, no matter what we were doing.

This is a sad situation with Natalee, and I feel for her parents. But the thing is that I can’t believe that this doesn’t happen a few times a year there. This happens all over America, everyday, at all hours. Worse happens here, and I think that there is so much pressure from Americans just b/c we are so nosy. If we Americans really wanted to start caring about missing teenage girls, then we could start here. The news could put more coverage on teenage girls here in the states. I can’t believe the stories that I’ve read on cases here that haven’t been solved, or that there just hasn’t been anything done about it. Or what about about all the teenage girls who are being sexually molested everyday, forced to live a life of having sex with their relatives, etc., but there’s just not enough news coverage about it, or enough activity to invoke the police to get involved and put a stop to it…
    http://www.polygamyinfo.com/media%20plyg%20173dailymail.htm

I feel for Natalee, but I also feel for the thousands of other teenage girls who die every year, and especially for the ones who are never found and their cases never solved.

All in all, I htink Aruba is a greta island. If our countries are to be judged by crime rate then I think that America get’s 2nd place, right after Africa.

But does that mean that America is not a good place to live? No.
So should we judge Aruba, even if they did make mistakes (God forbid they made some mistakes, I mean, it’s not like this kind of thing ever happens down there, I’m sure it was overwhelming and they didn’t know where to start or what to do). And I personally don’t htink this will effect tourist from going to Aruba. If anything I’m sure they will have more tourist b/c of the publicity.

  29. Ive gone to aruba too, its fun they have the best drugs there, and the coke is good. One time i was at this bar and i had so much to drink i stumbled out of the bar and fell a few times everyone saw and nobody cared. I heard a girl screaming on the beach that night and a few guys left in a silver car shortly after. oh well i cant wait to go back to aruba and get messed up again. good times.

  30. Under Aruban law, if you are the last known person(s) known to have been with a person who has disappeared, you will be charged with kidnapping,,,not my word, Aruban law.
Why haven’t they been charged according to the law?
Equusearch has asked to use their sounding machines to search a well on the Van der Sloot property. Under the circumstances of the statements that have been made (contradictory or not) there is enough probably cause to do so, considering the involvement of the judge in training/father and son.
You should also be made aware that from the beginning of the questioning, statements were made by Joran that a sexual act was committed against Natalie, against her will. That has always been a matter of record.
Evidently, none of that matters as long as Aruba has lots of nice drugs.

  31. you guys are talking like old bags, drugs are awesome, you need to loosen up dude. I had the best acid in Aruba. IT was great.

  32. Incase anybody wonders about the drugs… there are drugs on the island like everywhere else on the world. But that’s the consequence of demand, mostly tourist demand. American tourists are well-known to come around looking to party, drink and get high. Unfortunately they seem to loose their perspective when on vacation. But we seemingly have kept it safe around here. We all know where the tourists go and have allot of security @ the hotels and clubs.
But when you go over that barrier of stupidity you can get yourself in a dangerous situation, which is what Natalee did. I know the group was kind of wild and have been seen drunk often and that is not unusual to see of a large group of young tourists… but it became too much and the circumstances became so that this isolated event happened, and I hope it never happens again, but it did.
And I believe in how it has been treated, do you REALLY think we haven’t done our MAXIMUM. Maybe there were mistakes but who can say (this doesn’t happen often, not pro’s) … does anybody know all the facts of the case (those reporters sure don’t)? Do you have any idea how much overtime, manpower and money has been put into this case! We are not a rich country.
Why are we getting so much sh*t in the media… ratings for one (trouble in paradise entertains right?) That Nancy Grace person saw her ratings jump… and well we @ here aren’t very big fans at all. We do not hate Americans (excluding certain anchors)… just the system. We as a ppl have worked hard for many years to see our tourism grow… we make friends that sometimes come and visit once a year ( I know a couple who have done that for 30 years). We have a certain pride, and it’s hurting. Country of drugs prostitution and stupid ppl we were called… dumb and aggressive. That is not us. Our tourism will not decrease it has been rising at an alarming rate actually … so the fact that it just might not grow AS much is well kind of a relief. It’s mostly the pride and patriotism that has fueled some small demonstrations and hate mail.
PS americangirl you think you know all the facts because you’ve watched a bit of the news… yeah well… uhm no. I live on Aruba (proud arubian) and even I admit I do not know everything about the case. You want to know how safe the island is, try going to your government’s own website and check the crime rate… Ask a tourist maybe even a local (like moi) and maybe you’ll understand us a little better. If you still don’t know enough well Come on by, it is ONE HAPPY ISLAND. 😎
-some stress relieved, thank u much(danki)

  33. Stop trying to ( i say trying because you and i know its not working one bit) cover up the fact that Aruba is dangerous and their goverment is extreamely irrisponsible, lazy and corrupted. Please take a moment , along with a permanant marker and write the following on your forehead:

  34. wantingrealanswers

Clearly nobody on this board knows what really happened or has any evidence to indicate where Natalee is or what may have happened to her. All we’ve seen on this board and the rest is a rehash of unsubstantiated accusations and claims from desparate and scared relatiives of Natalee Holloway. Why should that be enough to consider someone a murderer? Why not demand proof and evidence? We can’t even say what if any crime was committed! That being the case, I think that the people considered suspects should also be considered innocent until proven guilty. Since there is zero evidence, I hope they can get back to some semblance of normal and happy lives.

  36. WELL IT SEEMS TO ME IF YOU WANT YOUR DAUGHTER RAPED AND MURDERED YOU SHOULD SEND HER ON HER SENIOR TRIP TO ARUBA,OR JUST DIRECTLY TO JORAN VANDERSLOOTS HOME,THEY WILL EVEN MAKE SURE AND BURY HER THERE.i BELIEVE THAT JORAN,AND THE KALPO BROTHERS ARE GUILTY,AND IF AND WHEN I GO TO ARUBA I WILL MAKE SURE TO GET INTO A FIST FIGHT WITH THEM AND SEE HOW DUTCH LAW HANDLES THAT CASE.

  37. I have read the blogs, and most can honestly be discounted. However, I would like to offer a couple of items, if I may. In order to compare crime rates, you must chose land masses which have similar populations. The United States, due to a lot of inner city crowding, does have high crime stats. Aruba does not. A comparison of the two is irrelevant. What does matter is the resources available versus the amount of crime to be investigated. Police in the United States are overworked, due to high crime rates, and the various mulitude in the variety of the crimes. Aruba has almost no crime at all. Here is where Aruba fails. They are able to dedicate almost all of the resources at their disposal to solve one case, not to mention offers from outside entities willing to help in the investigation. The Aruban authorities did wait to being the investigation, which was a hugh mistake. As it stands now, no physical evidence is likely to surface, and the hope of the family burying their daughter is gone. If you have a child, look at your baby and imagine a police force, be it United States or Aruba, and imagine your frustration over any mistake, no matter how minor it is. Aruba is safe for the most part, but what happened in this case is almost obscene, for the Aruban authorities had all of the resources available to deal with it, and they did, indeed, drag their feet. Just wanted to add to the spirited conversation…take care all.

  38. Crime rate is determent in percentage crime of the population. And well Aruba’s is basically low… in terms of tourist it’s basically unheard of until now at least. As I said before I would like to point out that on the island the young tourists are known to go crazy and when you look at it from that point of view you think if somebody comes and tells you an 18 year old girl who was intoxicated and left with three unknown men didn’t show up to her hotel room the next morning you can’t immediately start an all out search. But when it became apparent that she was in fact not running away or still partying somewhere we did go al out. Ok lets see what’s been going on @ the island… so there where 2 days where all persons employed by the government (about 2000) were given a day of if they go help the search. Uhm… there where also these boats and dogs… and F-16’s that Holland sent. There were investigators from Aruba, Holland and the U.S. There was a search team from Texas and another one called Equsearch… they came with all the latest equipment. Now I really do like this small island of mine, I love it in fact and when there are ppl in the media just slamming us it does hurt and makes you feel powerless. And well that whole Boycott idea, really? I mean seriously, really?? Ok if you feel it necessary… the reason is lost to me. And btw the sex-slavery idea is also pretty uhm imaginative… now the reward to find Natalee is 1 million dollars I think, now who would sell/ buy her without getting caught… otherwise also very very unlikely.
And Whey mr. moose you seem actually try to see things from more than one point of view… got any questions on the goings on @ here (a.k.a Aruba) just ask via blog… the info is much more accurate coming from Aruba instead of the media I swear… just ask.
    Laterz…

    Oe oe wait I forgot Credit to the attach-er of;

Stop trying to ( i say trying because you and i know its not working one bit) cover up the fact that Aruba is dangerous and their goverment is extreamely irrisponsible, lazy and corrupted. Please take a moment , along with a permanant marker and write the following on your forehead:

I must say, very witty. The whole misspelling of government and extremely and irresponsible and permanent (A.k.a all the big words) that was good, very nice. But I must say, we are known to be a bit lazy @ here in the sunny Caribbean… but dangerous no. Now if you don’t feel like coming over and getting a bit of a nice tan and that stick out of your uhum there is no need to offend the island, really do I bash the U.S. Srry about the stick comment but I think I’m a bit annoyed by the amount of narrow minded people like you. Anywayzz we may have our differences but that marker joke, hit the floor laughing… again witty, very witty.
    =d>

  39. Well, the pure fact that your answer to the nat disappearnace is there is crime everywhere. Who the hell cares I know that if I walk down Younge St in Toronto at night I have a greater chance of being raped so I dont ,cause i can be careful as I can but ultimately I cant stop somenoe from commiting a crime.
So yes I am going to avoid Aruba for my safety
    WHY
    – corrupt gov
    – corrupt police
    – total lack of emotion towards beth(picture your daughter)
As arubans should should be very afraid of the sex trade because now blonde americans are targets but what if the demand becomes 14 aruban girls
    canadiangirl

  40. The excuse is not that there is crime everywhere; it’s just that I think you should see things with a wider perspective. Corrupt government… uhm yeah maybe in that I don’t trust them with to much money, but the perception that there is actually some kind of huge conspiracy against the Halloways is absurd. Same thing for the police, there is no evidence that they have done anything to deliberately obstruct justice, as an inexperienced (in this scale) police team they could’ve made mistakes but nothing I view as deliberate or huge. I don’t mind the attacking of the government much but when you talk about the quality of ppl on the island that’s when I start to get offended… You were not here to see the huge outpouring of locals who want to help, maybe after being “boycotted” (no effect till now thankfully, amount of tourists from Alabama was never significant enough and doubt the rest of the U.S. will follow it because there is just no good reason) and called “dangerous/stupid” ppl (yes it’s been said often, media) that live in the wild…. well the positive emotion toward Beth the person may not be as high but everybody here wants that young girl found alive and feels for Beth as a mother… We just don’t agree with the bashing.

  41. Dear Canadiangirl,

With much disgrace I read your last comment, you named a couple of reasons why you should avoid Aruba.
    -corrupt gov
    -corrupt police
-total lack of emotion towards beth

I am just wondering how do you know that the gov and police on Aruba are corrupt?Just because you heard Beth Twitty talk about it, and the first thing you do is believe everything she said?
And I will also take this opportunity to ask you what do you mean with lack of emotion towards beth?, I can’t remember seeing beth cry for her daughter, but I did personally see her in a casino on Aruba laughing and Drinking.

So canadiangirl, I will suggest you to further investigate what really happened. The girl just left Aruba and went on with her life without the crazy dumbass bitch Beth.

  42. Well To the Halloway family, I am first very saddened by this whole deal that u guys r in, I believe that there r alot of sick people in this world, and i seriously think them 3 guys r all part to do with it, and unfortunately they will never confess up to it. I just watched the primetime thing with the interview with the biggest suspect, and it just seemed not right on alot of parts of the interview. I think ur daughter was very good looking, and I hope and pray for u all that someday and hopefully soon u will find ur daughter, i just wish I could do something to help, but basically all i can do and will do, is to pray for ue daughter and her family and friends, and hopefully something good will turn out.

  43. I’d take him and all concerned, with just expensenses paid and get to the bottom of it all.. if you want to know what happened to her, let me know..
If he or his friends did it, they’ll tell..
I will not hurt or injure them in anyway,
    BUT THEY WILL TALK.
If you want my help, contact me…

  44. I believe either S or D will break before joran or his father will. They’ve been drilled on the story that makes him look innocent. But, if you watch his interviews, his neck and ears turn “RED”, which shines through the make-up..
I swear, no drugs or alcohol will be employed in getting the truth from them. Just talking to them will do it..
All I ask for is expenses..

  45. The students that went to Aruba seemed to have one thing in common and thats alcohol. Listening to daily accounts of these young students away from home sounds like an AA meeting, or should. I’m not convinced that the young lady didn’t jump in the powerful ocean after an alcohol binge and drown.

  46. 🙁

DEDICATED TO MOTHERS AND FATHERS, THE WORLD OVER. (WHO LOVE THEIR
    KIDS MORE THAN ANYTHING!)

THIS IS STRICTLY THE OPINION OF ‘TOVES’:

“My Natalee Ann Holloway Story” JUSTICE 4 NATALEE!

We will never stand down until there is justice found for her.

    ……………….

NATALEE WAS RUN DOWN BY 3 LITTLE COWARDS, NAMED JORAN VAN DER SLOOT,
DEEPAK KALPOE, AND SATISH KALPOE ON 5-30-2005 BETWEEN 2AM AND 3 AM
    Oranjested, Aruba time.

THEY RAPED HER WHILST COMING IN AND GOING OUT OF
CONCIOUSNESS. SHE WAS SLIPPED THE DROGAS
‘XTC’ THAT DEEPAK SECURED & MADE
A QUICK STOP IN TO SEE A CHOLLER
    TO GET IT.

    ABOUT RAPING WITH NAT:

PARTS OF THIS, JORAN EVEN ADMITS TO NOT ONLY RESPECTABLE INDIVIDUALS OF ARUBA
(VAN DER STRAATEN ANITA VAN DER SLOOT, PROBABLY DAD, OTHER PARTS OF THIS
HE BRAGS ABOUT TO FRIENDS AT SCHOOL – BEFORE ANYONE KNOWS NATALEE IS
MISSING) IT IS COVERED UP AND HE LIES LATER. BUT THERE ARE WITNESS TRAILS
THAT JORAN, ANITA, AND JAN VAN DER STRAATEN KNOW PERSONAL STUFF ABOUT
NATALEE THAT NOBODY SHOULD KNOW EXCEPT MAYBE HER DOCTOR!

JORAN AND CO. HAVE MOST LIKELY DONE THIS MANY TIMES. “DONE IT 20
TIMES” Freudian slip on FOX with GRETA. If you think about it,
everything we’ve found out has slowly been released from Joran’s
big fat cakehole. Each time he speaks, several new clues drop out.
He’s like OJ SIMPSON. Every time he opens his mouth, words drop
like loose marbles all over the floor!

HE SAID SHE ACCIDENTALLY FELL AND HIT HER HEAD! ONE OF A 1,000
LIES… PROBABLY NOT, OR HE WOULD HAVE CLAIMED ACCIDENT
AND CALLED IT A DAY. …AND GAVE UP THE CORPSE.

THAT WOULD OF WORKED FOR HIM… IF THERE WASN’T DRUGS IN HER,
SEMEN IN AND ON HER, AND BLOOD FROM BEING HIT BY THE CAR –
THE FORENSIC MARKERS THAT WE KNOW HAVE TO BE
THERE. …BUT AT EVERY STEP, THEY ARE NOT,
    BECAUSE THE EVIDENCE WAS DESTROYED.

IF YOU’D LIKE TO SEE EXAMPLES OF THIS IN ACTION,
LOOK FOR CHICAGO TAPES ON http://WWW.ARUBASSILENCE.COM

AND NO EVIDENCE REMAINS (THAT IS PUBLICLY KNOWN OF ANYWAY)
DUE TO SABOTAGE, COVER-UP, AND A HUGE TRAIL
OF EVIDENTIARY DESTRUCTION, THAT CAN AND WILL
    BE REVISITED AND PROVEN
    IN A COURT OF LAW.
    MOST LIKELY, IN HOLLAND.

    ………………………….

SHE WAS GANG RAPED BY JORAN, DEEPAK AND SATISH… POSSIBLY EVEN VIDEO TAPED.

AND UNFORTUNATELY… (SORRY NATALEE’S FAMILY, I PRAY FOR YOU ALL. WE ALL
HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT HER. I FOR ONE, HAVE ADOPTED HER AS MY DAUGHTER
NOW. THAT IS WHY I AM WRITING THIS.)

NATALEE WAS HIT WITH A HONDA CIVIC… AFTER FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE
SO WELL & HARD… SHE SLICED UP A COUPLE OF HOODLUMS TO A PULP!!!
SHE DID HERSELF PROUD AND BEAT SOME OF THEIR ASSES. BUT SHE WAS
    OVERPOWERED.

WHEN THE BOYS REALIZED SHE WAS GOING TO GET AWAY AND TELL
THAT SHE WAS RAPED. AS SHE WAS RUNNING TO GET AWAY…
(CAN’T KEEP A GOOD WOMAN DOWN)

THEY ALL FREAKED AND PANICKED… (Joran says hit her with the car, retard?)

EGGED ON BY ALL IN THE CAR, THE DICKLESS & GONADLESS, SATISH KALPOE
    FLOORED IT…

AND RAN HER DOWN… DRIVING HER IN TO PAVEMENT AND ROCKS!

HE PROBABLY DID SEE HER GHOST IN PRISON, IT WAS SELF GENERATED
    BY HIS OWN GUILTY MIND.

WHAT A LOVELY GROUP OF BOYS! THEY KILL TO GET LAID.

…AND THEY’RE GOING TO DO IT AGAIN, IF NOT PUT IN JAIL…
OR HUNTED DOWN AND SHOT LIKE THE FUCKIN ANIMALS
    THAT THEY KNOW THEY ARE.

KOEN GOTTENBOS HELPED DISPOSE OF NATALEE’S CORPSE AT SEA, (WHAT A GUY)

BECAUSE SHE JUST WAS DYING TO GO OUT TO SEA, & SEE (READ: BE FED TO)
    THE SHARKS.

IN THE DEEP MURKY WATERS PAST THE LEDGE OFF THE COAST OF ARASHI.

THIS AREA ALL IS SHARK AREA.

THERE WAS NO WALK ON PALM BEACH, I DO NOT THINK. JORAN WAS WALKING
    THE BEACH ALONE.

(AN EDUCATED PERSON WHO STUDIES HIS MISUSE OF PRONOUNS CAN DETECT
    THIS. HE’S LYING.)

HE MAY HAVE BEEN WALKING NEAR THERE… BUT IT WAS WITH

A DEAD, BLEEDING NATALEE IN HIS ARMS. HE BURIED HER

FIRST NEAR THE FISHERMAN’S HUTS (AT FIRST MAYBE) AND LATER OUT AT THE DUNES…

    FOR BURIAL # 2.

    ********

ALTHOUGH, I DO FIND IT INTERESTING WITH ALL THE PEOPLE JORAN SAID HE
SAW WALKING THE BEACH THAT NIGHT. NOT 1 WILL STEP FORWARD TO SAY
    THEY SAW A N Y O N E ON THE BEACH THAT NIGHT.

NOT A SHRED OF PROOF HE WAS THERE, EXCEPT THE WORD OF LYING SCOUNDRELS.

IN FACT SOME PEOPLE WHO WERE THERE (FISHERMAN) SAID IT WAS A
GHOST TOWN ON THAT BEACH, NOT 1 PERSON BETWEEN 12-5A.
MAYBE THE WHOLE PALM BEACH THING IS A FARCE?

    **********

THEY BURY HER NEAR THE LIGHTHOUSE AT THE DUNES LATER…

THEY WE’RE GETTING READY & PREPPING FOR HER SEA BURIAL. (under cover
    of darkness)

…AND THE BLOOD SOAKED SHOES OF JORAN. WHERE DID THEY GO, HMMM?

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW, JORAN!

GOOD NEWS IS: THE INVESTIGATION IS NOW ALSO MOVING TO HOLLAND,

SO JORAN DOESN’T HAVE TO BE INCONVENIENCED ANYMORE!

“I no longer talk to police.” –JORAN VAN DER SLOOT (GRETA FOX-TV
    INTERVIEW) 3/2006

SAME GOES FOR KOEN GOTTENBOS. RELAX BRO, WE’RE BRINGING IT ON
    HOME TO YOU BOTH.

    HAVE A NICE LIFE!

    ……………………………

    And it’s whispered that soon…

If we all call the tune…

Then the piper will lead us to reason…

And a new day will dawn…

    For those who stand long…

And the forests will echo with laughter…

    If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow…

    Dont be alarmed now…

It’s just a spring clean for the MAY QUEEN. (5-30-2005 R.I.P. sweetheart)

Yes, there are two paths you can go by…

    But in the long run…

There’s still time to change the road you’re on.

    FINAL COMMENTS:

    You’ve caused a lot of pain & suffering…

of many good people the world over, that had nothing to do with this.

and a lot people will not sleep again…

until every last one of you

    have been dealt with

    properly!

    Thanks for reading.

  47. I remember the first few days Natalee was missing, I searched in and around the brush field across the street from the Holiday Inn just to see if maybe she was accosted by someone aftter hours outside the hotel or whathaveyou and left close-by… it seemed logical. I didn’t find anything unusual (except for a handful of Fox News camera men…), and that land has since been cleared for a mall and condos (if im not mistaken, mall at least for sure). One thing i am certain of is this: There are too many factors some known and some not known, for anyone to pass judgement. Just because the Holloway-Twitty family, along with the Nancy Graces and Bill O’Rielys have convicted Aruba and everyone who lives here does not mean that this is an ‘evil’ place… That’s just rediculous. Nobody on the trip (and nobody related to Natalee – ‘mean’ parents, possible ex-boyfriends or perhaps horny male high-school classmates who thought they might have a shot while drunk and in the Caribbean) has been investigated or polygraphed by the FBI or the Aruban/Dutch authorities because they have been so busy doing damage control BECAUSE American media has convicted the three young men. If the FBI wanted to interrogate Beth, their would be outrage at such a suggestion. But, there are strange coincidences. The first week, Beth, on local Aruban TV, said something like ‘I’m not going to take it this time, Natalee.’ Based on that, some folks investigated the possible meaning of that, and discovered that she ‘stayed behind a few days against her parents wishes’ and ‘went missing’ on more than one other occassion involving international travel: can you say ‘crying out for help?’
The Twittys have denied this, as they have also denied that Natalee ever drank, smoked, had sex, or did anything ‘unwholesome.’ HOWEVER, after the case fell out of the top news slot, Dave and Beth have since retracted all of that on on the News because they were, in fact, lying and ‘exaggerating the truth.’
I also called the Twitty hotline the first week and suggested that they search this old, deserted hotel on the main drag because i noticed there were some windows open on the upper floor and thought that was strange. The American woman on the phone, i think Beth’s sister or something, answered very casually ‘okay, thanks for the tip…’ I really had and still have the feeling that they were expecting Natalee to ‘come out of hiding’ and apologise for running away (perhaps again).
I know i would feel a lot better about putting the assumption of guilt onto those three young men if the Holloway-Twittys, the Chaperones, and ALL the other students on the trip were given rigerous lie-detector tests. Otherwise, this will never be anything more than heresay-oh wait, the three young men were interrogated rigorously (and pummelled by other prisoners) for three months (your not ‘protected’ in Caribbean prison, btw) and never ‘cracked:’ maybe there was nothing for them to ‘crack’ about…
There were so many ’embellished’ words and fabrications made on the part of the Holloway-Twittys that it is incredible that no-one seems to notice or think to investigate. Nobody seems to care either, because the court of opinions had already bought their story: or is it just that it would be ‘unAmerican’ to even suggest that her ‘dissapearance’ was not the fault of a non-american?
Hey, remember how much support there was for the invasion of Iraq in the beginning? Look at how people feel about that now. Perhaps the world was suckered by these wealthy Americans who had things to cover up themselves. Until someone investigates them, that will remain a distinct possibility. The burden of proof remains in the wind until they are investigated, polygraphed, and interrogated. Hmm… funny how Beth was on Aruba within, what, 35 minutes (exageration, but it was within a couple hours) of Natalee missing her flight… It’s as if she was prepared for or planning for this… I also believe that if these people have these kinds of resources and connections, and there was a girl to be found, a girl would have been found, period. So may strange instances on their side that were never ‘investigated’ or even looked into, just taken at their word.
What a shame, and now the population of an entire Caribbean Nation is suffering unjustly, choosing between paying rent or buying groceries for their children, because of one irresponsible teen and her Yahoo hillbilly parents who seemed to love the spotlight more than they cared about ‘finding’ their daughter.
That is the only provable crime i can see here.
    -Casey
Oh, and to those who can actually accept the fact that Beth and Dave might not be right about everything, does it ever seem like the people who come onto these blog-rooms and yell “Joran will burn in hell!!!” or, “Don’t go to Aruba if your a girl” actually might have guilty consciences? Or perhaps they are on Beth’s “Boycott Aruba” payroll, or maybe they just spend all of their time in their houses on the computer because they can’t relate to other real, breathing human beings? Just a thought…:o

  48. BTW, Toves, I have kids, I love them more than anything in the world, and neither them, nor i had anything to do with Natalees disapearance…We are, however, suffering quite a bit because of this media witch-hunt. The damage is done, the story was bought: I wish countries could sue people for libel and slander…

  49. Consistantly thought as foul play is at the basis of this case. I have read the activities of this young woman and have no difficulty determining that she, and many of her friends, loved alcohol. I’ve traveled to many island resorts and will comment if she went for a late night dip and drown she would not be the first. The body could easily be lost at sea.

  50. I agree with you Pearly. Once or twice a year there are occacionally drownings on the Island. Fishermen, tourists or anywone who fall of the rocks…..including getting in the ocean while they are drunk. It might happen, it happened …..and i think that is what happened with N.H. Of course this story took another turn, it became a fundraising event for family and friends, and that is sad…. truly sad.

  51. 😕
I do not agree with the media. I do not agree with the Aruban police. I do not agree with justice. I do not agree that Natalee Halloway was simply “lost at sea”. I believe that 2 or 3 freaks (already identified) drugged and allowed Natalee to die not of her will. My guess is that they did hand her over to the druggies on teh island (as they have alluded to doing with other girls), only to have them surface again the next day (as they suspected) because the girl would not press charges for being under the influence of drugs and alcohol under a different flag (not the U.S.A.) and there simply would be no way of proving the vicious assault on Natalee, at least in U.S.A. terms. But I also belive that Natalee was a fighter, and that was the reason she succombed to the death that we may never no in public. For sure, the girl was kileed. By whom though, those 2 or 3 guys (which are more slime than guys I might ad) may not have “done it”. But they certainly know what DID occur. I was on Aruba in July and August of 2005 to investigate. I penetrated a few places in Aruba that the police didn’t go. I found out that there is a HUGE underworld that they refuse to go. So hence the secrecy. There is corruption in Aruba (I found out by my hotel cleaning staff, taxi drivers, and down town in the stores, talking to individuals) the Aruba has a secret to hide, in the course of keeping their economy and their livelihood of tourism going.

    I will never go back.

I loved Aruba. Too bad the Aruban people did not love Natalee.

May God rest the souls of those who dared to harm Natalee, if they repent and come to justice.

Their justice is not of this world anyways.

Signed — A survivor of Aruba

  52. Hi All,
I just found this discussion. I will not add to any speculation on Natalee’s whereabouts or the events surrounding it. However, I did just return from vacation there and have come to the conclusion that “burying” a body (in the traditional sense that we know) is not the same as here in the states. The entire island is coral, rock, and lava. To dig to any kind of depth would require either one hell of a dig team or a trencher/backhoe. If NH was not kidnapped and taken off the island, her remains was more than likely discarded in the ocean. During a tour of the island, our guide pointed out the trash dump area where all the hotels take their left over food daily to feed the sharks—my gut literally sank.. I hate to state the obvious, but if this IS THE case, there will probably never be any remains found–not with the amount of marine life around Aruba.

Truly a sad, sickening event. But one that does not incriminate the whole of the island and shouldn’t. While this matter needs to be resolved, I’m starting to think that reporters like the climate of Aruba better than say Washington D.C. or Iraq….

  53. The big suspect, Joran is not an Aruban and the other two guys either, Joran van der sloot are a Dutch boy and the other two guys are from Suriname, so why everybody blame the Island of Aruba? they have to blame Holland and Suriname where the guys come from,………
