Damn Republican Party!

I was on my way to pick up Chris at the airport last night. I had to miss the debate on TV (though, I did watch it later on Fox, they replayed it at around midnight). I listened to the debate on my XM Radio on the ride to and from the airport . .. hanging on every word – wishing I could see it instead, but.. ah well.

Anyways – about 30 mintues into the debate, my cell phone rings . . .

Caller: Hello, may I speak with Lisa?

Me: Speaking.

Caller: Hi Lisa – this is Matt calling from the Bush/Cheney ’04 campaign, and we really want to thank . . .

Me: (interrupting his script) Hey Matt, I can’t believe you are calling me in the middle of the debate. You do know there is a Presidential debate on the television right now, don’t you?

Matt: Well, yes I am aware . . .

Me: And as a Bush supporter, I have to ask – why aren’t you watching it?

Matt: Well that is why I’m calling . . with only 24 days left . . .

Me: Matt. I support Bush solidly. No question. I’ve contributed. I campaign for him. I have a sign in my yard and a website devoted to the support of Bush and this administration. Now, I want to watch the debate, if you don’t mind.

Matt: I understand Lisa, and we really want to thank you — and with only 24 days left . . the liberal media . .

Me: Matt, I don’t think you’re hearing me here. I WANT TO LISTEN TO MY PRESIDENT IN THE DEBATE!

Matt: Well . . uh. . . ok. Can I call you back.

Me: Please do. Go watch the debate yourself. Call me back and we’ll review the highlights.

Matt: Well… uh… ok. Well, thanks then.

Me: Enjoy the debate, Matt. We’ll talk later.

(hang up)

Matt never did call me back. Damn, I was so looking forward to it.

  1. He didn’t call back???

Well, you can take comfort in the fact that he definitely was talking about THAT phone call around the water cooler.

  2. Could it be that they were canvassing their base supporters to distract them from a potentially bad debate performance? Kinda makes you wonder after his first debate performance…

  3. If that were the case – they’d be calling the undecides, don’t ya think? I mean a Bush supporter is a Bush supporter . . warts n’ all. If they wanted to distract anyone, it would be those weird undecided people who, 23 days away from the election, still haven’t made up their mind!

  4. In college I did the telefund thing for extra cash. (I brought no money in, and quit after 2 weeks). You are told to stay on script – which it sounds like Matt was desperately trying to do! But calling during the debate…and also since it was probably around 9 your time on a Friday night? Weird.

  5. I’m sure your name is now on a post-it note somewhere…

  6. If you knew my whole past – - I’m not on a post it note – - – I’m on a whole legal pad! lol The FBI has me bugged, I just know it (black helicopters too!)
